I with you about how thankfully tastes change as you age @oldguy57, but the funny thing I’ve been considering a red mirror chrome wrap on my Mk2 Escort when I should be old enough to know better! (I’m 42 now not 19 when I got that Escort!) I still have my old BMX (Mongoose Calafornian) and want to put that back to just how it was when I was a teen, also still have a Giant Cadex mountain bike from when I was 16 and I still like that. My wife says I’m a borderline hoarder!
I don’t have my car from my childhood/teenage years but like you I do still have my bikes.

Saw a Vauxhall Calibra recently on my travels. Striking looking design compared with all the bloated modern cars. Calibras look so narrow from the back.
They were super slippery at the time. Great design. Unfortunately many will have been scrapped so when they’re recognised as being a great design prices will whizz up.

I think a fair few were probably scrapped after having their red top engines removed for other projects.

Some nice photos of Calibras on this Autocar web page. The red turbo 4x4 is a bit of a looker.

Never even though of owning one tbh. Had a VW Corrado 1.8 16v and i suppose the Calibra was a competitor around that time.

I prefer the image that’s in my memory bank. It’s not as amazing as I remember. 🥴

Wheels were tiny back then.
One of my lodgers had an H plate 2.0 version in white. It got nicked off my drive and was sadly involved in a hit and run where a lad got killed. ☹️☹️

Lodger then bought a R plate 2.5 GSI V6 Vectra with the insurance payout.

I tried out the VR6 as an alternative, before opting for the Calibra. It was powerful but just a bit too "urgent", whereas the Calibra had 4 wheel drive and greater tuning potential, plus more toys ... a/c and sunroof ... Forest Green with beige leather, was quite classy.

Prices are already on the up.

p.s. apologies for the thread drift!

I loved my calibra, was carbic blue with an aftermarket bodykit on it and 17’ alloys
I had a Caribic Blue Corsa SRi. Good times. The colour was very popular with the female of the species.

Anyone else remember the DTM limited edition cars. White with BBS wheels and little yellow badges. I think the hot Cavaliers and Calibras were both available in this trim.

I do, a neighbour had one, and it was a great looking thing. Before becoming a Mercedes fan boi I was a Vauxhall fanboi 😁

I’ll bet you wanted a Tigra too?

😁

I did consider the original Tigra briefly when I bought my Corsa SRi, but decided it was a touch too feminine for me, even in that lovely dark blue colour.

Later Mrs D fancied the later second generation Tigra, the folding hard top convertible, and one weekend we talked enthusiastically about getting her one.

We didn’t take it any further though. I’m not sure it was actually a car she wanted, I think she wanted anything other than the Omega 2.5 V6 CD she was driving.

Apparently Omegas weren’t what all mid-twenties lady drivers aspired to own. What did she know, it was a year old and an absolute bargain. Lucky girl.

Only Vauxhall I’ve ever had was an old Astramax van. Proper workhorse, did us proud.

I did love the VX220 though.

Mum & Dad had the 1991 Astra GSI2000 in white. Lovely looking thing at the time.

Mrs D was much safer in the Omega than the Tigra. 🙏

Had a few Vauxhalls myself and they've never once let me down. Run them up to 130k miles over a few years, same battery and exhaust and never leaked and no electrical problems. Ok a touch boring but as an everyday hacker they've been brilliant.

Used to always have an argument with a mate, he always said it was green and i always said it was blue, after all there was the word blue in the colour 🤣

All together i had a light metallic mk1 green cavalier sri 130, a blue mk2 astra sri with the burberry interior, of course the calibra and a light purple frontera sport, it looked well cool with the big wide alloys and bull bar, just wasnt a very good car, oh and i forgot about my 2002 vectra sri 150, bought it cheap as it didnt run right, the boy i bought it off had it into many garages and couldnt get to the bottom off it, all it was was the pre cat had broken up and fallen into the downpipe and blocked the flow of gasses, that was a really simple fix, take it off shake the bits out and refit :)
