My 2006 W203 went for its first MOT today at Mercedes Blackpool. They collected from where I work which makes it convenient, they also offered to check for any recall or warranty work required.

The car passed with some advice notes, noteably the front brakes. They warned me that the brakes were 65% worn and would need replacing soon. As the car has only done 17,000 miles then the remaining 35% may last some time. Strangely I was quoted £259 for discs and pads for the front, even assuming this didn't include VAT it did sound cheap on reflection. My car has the sport pack brakes which if I've entered the correct p/n comes to £342 on Inchcape.

Should I go back and get the new brakes?

Rear tyres were down to 2mm so I do need to get those replaced, thinking of the Goodyear F1 Assym 245/40/17 from Event Mobile tyres £253 fitted for the rears, or Tyre Traders £234.50 mobile fitting. (MB were £168 each which isn't as bad as I thought it would be).

Brakes only 65% worn will give another 8500 miles based on your figures, wait till the brake pad wear light comes on and get them fitted by an indi.

Do the front discs really need changing after only 17k miles, as that sounds very low to me?

For the brakes try getting a quote from a MB independent specialist.

How would an Indi be any cheaper than the dealer when the parts cost more from Inchcape than I've been quoted from the dealer fitted?

I'd like to think that my MB dealer would let me know if they were that bad. Warning heeded never the less.

Thanks

So would I, but those pictures were taken 3 months after the end of warranty check & MOT. MB never mentioned them.

I recently bought discs and pads for my Sport Pack C Class from MB Manchester for the same price you have been quoted by MB Blackpool. There is an offer on at the moment which only some of the dealers are participating in.

I have the Sports Pack brakes and from Inchcape they come to £233 +VAT (Pads set, discs and sensors)

They were replaced at 41k miles.
