cls 350
i have changed three times the brake discs in 2 months and still cant find the problem
the car is 350 cls only 40000 miles

anyone on here had similar issue and resolved it

Have you ensured that you have throughly cleaned the mating surface at the hub before changing the disc?

Worn bushes in the Control arms can also lead to the vibration under braking.

What brand of brake disc are you using and are the pads wearing unevenly?

Did you polish the hub before fitting ?

Hi,
thanks for the reply
yes i was there next to him wen the mechanic fitted the new discs and yes he did do a proper cleanup

currently im using mercedes discs
before had brambo

Have you actually properly checked the discs off the car to see if they are warped or are you presuming that the vibration is disc runout ?

If it was a sticking caliper (piston) then it would be evident from the smell / heat and drag that there was an issue , IIRC the front calipers on my CLS were four piston units so no slider pins to worry about , if there was a buildup of crap behind the mounting face throwing the disc off then there would be vibration the first time you pressed the brakes.

What about play in the front wheel bearings ?

I’m just going through the same issue with my CLS350 Shooting Brake. It’s almost certainly looking like warped wheels from pothole damage. No disc run out. No stuck calliper. No worn bushings. Wheel bearings seem ok.

I know this sounds mental but it would be well worth visiting someone like The Wheel Specialist as when I described the issue to them on the phone he instantly said warped wheels.

The only thing we can’t work out is why it only judders under braking. If wheels were warped surely it would happen all the time? It’s got me stumped I must say.

Hi AJ . unless you spend most of your driving on a race track there is almost no possibility of warping 3 sets of discs in 60 days on a CLS 350 .

P.S . many MB cars are fitted with Brembo as standard.
My thoughts exactly. You can get your discs really hot during prolonged heavy braking, but they still won't warp.
Is it both discs, front I assume not rear ?

sticking caliper?

i do drive everyday from london to cambridge but i don’t really do any heavy brake. before this i had 2008 c320 but never had any problem with the braks
and its only front not rear
i dont know if the alloy wheel are causing this

one of the mercedes specialists told me only the alloy wheels are causing this problem but im not sure because done the wheel refurbishment but i know they aren 100% but don’t believe they warp the discs in 1 week and the care is shaking only wen im braking
but i did order new alloy wheel from mercedes i will change them sometime this week and fit new discs and pads and see what’s going to happen

Do you have original MB calipers ? .Could be a sticking piston in caliper and draging on the disc and then getting it hot .. check to see if there is room in the brake fluid tank so fluid can return ,,,if the brake flluid tank is full with no room for expansion thats the reason .
Take the car for a run and check the heat of each front disc .. if the caliper is sticking it will show up if they are to hot problem solved

Is the brake fluid reservoir sealed? I thought it was ventilated to prevent a vacuum and allow the fluid into the pistons, they certainly used to be.

There is a small vent but not enough to let air escape back quick enough . But i put it down to sticking caliper but unusual for both wheels at the same time to warp ..one yes. something to do with fluid return . . I still say its fluid return to happen on both discs together .
