Any news, was it hubs or something else ?
Hello,

my car still at mercedes!
and yehh the problem was the hubs today they will change the hubs
but was very hard for them to find the problem because i think no one is interested to do a proper check and do a good work

They wont have a problem finding someone to give you a bill.

Still just throwing parts at the problem and not measuring anything...
They must rub their hands in glee when they see you coming!

did say wheel bearings Had the same issue drove the tyre man silly but solved it in the end with the search button off here, well done for sorting it though £400.00 bill plus labour for the hubs hurts

An update from my issues highlighted in this thread regarding my CLS 350CDI Shooting Brake.

Nearside front wheel has a slight flat spot but my tyre fitter and The Wheel Specialist in Fareham have said not to worry about it. Currently it is balancing up well. Tyres removed and refitted as local Mercedes dealer aren't to be trusted.

Both front discs warped - 0.8m runout on the nearside. 0.3mm run out offside. Measured with the DTI at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock positions on the front of the face at approx 8mm in from lip. No vertical run out on either side. I have not measured across the surface at various points yet but might do so when I get access to a marking out table.

Hub runout checked with a clean hub (rotary wire bush on drill) with no run out found at same points as disc. No vertical runout.
Small amount of wheel bearing play when car is cold. No play when warm but I didn't try and measure anything here.

Wheel bolts, calliper carrier bolts and disc locator bolt removed with hand tools and refitted with hand tools and torque wrench.

All mating surfaces cleaned with rotary wire brush before refitting. No corrosion present on hubs. Discs cleaned to bright finish. Wheel surface cleaned to bright finish.

A 25 mile road test confirmed that the issue of vibration under braking has gone. Long term road testing will hopefully highlight any other issues. I will also complete the above measurements on the rears with results to follow.

Well pleased to see that your problem is being or has been solved I hope the op finds that MB will solve his by throwing parts at it,but I have a similar problem on a Citroen DS5 auto and have had the disc's changed by my local mechanic plus new pads, and the problem is still there, now there is no judder when I first start driving after 5 or 10 miles braking from say 40mph with give me steering wheel giggle,so I looked through all the thread at lots of suggestions that have been put forward by our members, and decided that I would go with taking brake fluid out of the reservior I took 360 cc out and from a short run today it seems to have cured it,but I have a much longer trip tomorrow so will post again if the cure is good.

The fluid level is supposed to be high with new pads and will drop with pad wear.

Did you check the discs off the car and mounted properly on a known "true" face ?

Not yet. This was mounted with 5 bolts holding the disc to the hub with an even 60nm of torque. If you see my post I need a marking out table to test them on. The hub ran true so I’m 99% certain the discs are buggered in my case.

I have refaced / checked loads of discs over the years and could have stuck them in the lathe on a "true" mounting spigot and checked them for you , if you were closer.

Thanks for the offer Kenny. If I had a 4 jaw chuck big enough I’d do that myself but I don’t sadly. Would be interesting to get an off the car runout measurement.

Can't see how that would cure a judder. If it is not the discs then (in my experience) most likely culprit is suspension bushes.

Well you might have noticed that in the thread it was suggested that as the brake fluid got hot that it would expend and need to have room in the reservoir now that made some sense to me,as the history of this DS5 was changed front disc's because of vibration on braking, but that did not cure the fault,so after about three months of try various things,I got my mechanic to change them again with new pads and do a full service with new dot 4 ,now this car will drive fine and brake ok until about 5 miles and then the juddering will start,so I looked at the reservoir and it was brim full over the full mark,so I have removed some dot4 and yesterday again a short run of about 15 miles the brakes were better, they applied themselves better and there was just a hint of a vibration, before I take a little more out of the reservoir I will have to give it a long run maybe today as another thing happens is that when I stop at traffic lights when I lift of the brake the pads stick on and then I get a jolt when they do let go,so work in progress, but no way is it warped discs.

hi,
i just got the car back from mercedes 2 days ago so far looks good
but i still have to wait about 10 days for the final answer if definitely have been fixed:)
i will keep you all updated
I really hope this is the Case Jeff. Fingers crossed mate. This is a very useful thread you have started here and has been a great help in sorting my own issues out.
