An error message on my CLK 55 AMG came up on the dash yesterday saying I need to take the car in as there is a problem with the ABS and ESP, is there a chance this could be nothing or am I looking at a hefty bill?

Could be as simple as a sensor gone down, take it in and have the codes read

It's probably the brake pedal travel sensor in the servo.

We had similar problem on CLK....turned out to be brake light control switch....

Take it into MB and get them to put it on computer....this will identifly problem.

Mobilo should also be able to sort this out for you at home..

I would fit a new brake light switch first, mounted at the top of the brake pedal arm. Common problem on a lot of Mercs and cheap to fix yourself:thumb:

My W210 started giving these two errors last week.

Both the ESP and the BAS reported a malfunction at the same time just after starting up from cold. After switching the engine off then restarting, it didn't happen again until today. I ignored the messages until I reached my first destination a mile later. After switching off then on again, the fault disappeared.

I can't remember if the malfunction messages came on before or after I pressed the brake. If the problem is related to the brake light switch, would it only become apparent after pressing the brake pedal, or would the fault be found without pressing the brake pedal?

When this happened to me, the fault only became apparent on pressing the brake pedal after start up...had this happen on a W208 cab and 2 BMW 3 series.....this sounds like your brake light switch has gone

Ive finally gotten rid of my error code after 2 years of having it. all the usual mentions tried and failed.

My garage completely reset the system, they said it could have been a result of a stereo not being installed connrectly, to much power drain etc etc?

They have re-earthed the stereo and the fault went!

(OP, its most likely to be a dodgy sensor)

I also had these error messages the BAS and ABS about 2 weeks ago changed the brake lamp switch and it went away for a few days comes back on every so often at start up then goes away when you knock the ignition off and on again. Could this be a problem with something else or a faulty brake lamp switch. Before the error would come on when i pressed the brake and the ABS light showed with it. Now it is just the BAS light showing up without the brake pedal being pressed but it just does it when it wants to not constant

I haven't seen the errors at all since my last post on 1/6. :)So I am taking the 'do nothing' line at the moment.

Still having problems with bas lights coming up every 4-5 days on normally a cold start or when starting the car sometimes even if engine is warm. The lights come on without the brake being depressed as mentioned in my other post the brake lamp switch has been changed can so what else could be the problem can any1 shed any light on this as its getting very iritating

Having these lights pop up more frequently now i do not think it is the brake lamp switch as the brake lights, cruise control and speed limiter work o.k. the light just comes on as and when it wants without the brake pedal being pressed, Any ideas of what it could be apart from the brake lamp switch?

A whole number of things. Like a wheel speed sensor.

I suppose it needs the fault codes to be checked?

Is there any cheap or free way to get fault codes checked instead of going to an MB dealer? I have heard that some cars can be made to flash lights on their dashboard to indicate stored fault codes. Does this apply to any mercedes, especially the W210 (because that's what have)?
