To the best of my knowledge the brake fluid in my 2002 CL203 has never been changed & refilled with fresh fluid.

I know that brake fluid is hygroscopic and is recommended to be changed but has anyone ever asked for this to be carried out at service ? :dk:

M-B state every two years I think. Rule of thumb, every four would be fine if the car is driven in a normal fashion. Check the brake hoses.

Just a note - checking the condition of the brake fluid in the reservoir (visually and/or using a tester) is not a substitute for regular changing, because unlike coolant, brake fluid does not circulate, and the condition of the fluid in the reservoir may be different to that of the fluid inside the calipers and flexible hoses.

If it was mine, I'd change the fluid asap.. I suspect it would have been done whilst still under warranty at the 2nd year service, and possibly the 4th year, but that's still a long time ago.

If it hasn't been done for that length of time, my preferred option would be to use a pressure or vacuum device to change it, not manually pushing the pedal down, in case there's 'muck' in the system or the pistons have become slightly corroded, potentially not ideal for the seals.

It's a 2-year service item for MB.
