A little competition of sorts.

Just got around to measuing my front brake pads - 8 or 9mm left. So how many miles do you think they've done?

How thick were they to start with?

Hi Stevesey,

Not taking the 'pee', but surely the answer would have an awful lot more to do with how the car has been driven (hard/town usage vs. gentle/motorway etc) rather than how good/bad someone's guess is :D

I'll go for 8000 miles so far though ;)

I know - actually if want to know all that info it's all contained in the pages of this forum (a certain moustached gentlemen would have probably worked it out by now).

P.S. Higher

Done 50k as you cant wear them out to quick as the pension wont cover the replacement cost:D

I had done 20k when my pads were that thick and did another 5k before they needed replacement.

Still 20 years to retirementworking in B&Q :p:p but actually in the current climate a new set of pads would make a big dent in my pension pot :D

You are the closest so far though.

85k on thebasis on my last car did 62 k and still had 40% left

That's probably a similar wear rate.

Mine have done 40K now and 8-9mm is probably only 40% worn tops (probably less - I doubt the new pads were more than 12mm) - I will probably end up at about 85K before they need doing at this rate.

Mileage is 50% motorway at an average of 31mpg - I'm not slow, but do tend to conserve momentum through corners and roundabouts (and I like to think I look well ahead) so I'm probably not that hard on the brakes. On previous cars I have always got 25K-30K out of the front pads (although with less motorway work). The difference on these is impressive.
