Hi there, I found tons of info on this, but nothing is clear.
i bought my E320 CDI 2004 in UK arround Xmas 2010. nice car and all.
Now this message came up, so I contacted my local Stealers. they ran STAR on it and told me they tryed to upgrade the software.. whatever that means.

the message is in white and I can't see any problems on the performance of the brakes.

so they obvioulsy failed this task.
finally they told me I need new SBC pump unit. €1800 in total.
so I asked can this be covered by good will warranty? As far as I know thay did lodge the complaint with MB Ireland, but no answer. They also told me that Service history is not genuine..
So basically a no no I can understand.

Now is there anybody with same problem?
I found a used one for €500 icluding fitting.
I found these guys, that claim they can repair it.. my english might not be great, but I understand they are not really repairing anything: W211/R230 SBC Repair

Anyone can advise? As car is from UK, maybe I should contact MB UK and try to get it covered in Belfast?

Any we have ever heard of on this and other forums have been changed FOC.

I would contact MB uk and see if they can help . If the car was in the UK until december .
I have heard of others getting the pump changed FOC here in Ireland regardless of sevice history .

I’m not sure that they can be changed for a used one they may have the ECU serial number burned to them and so are not reusable, any one here know for sure??

MB Ireland reply:
We are sorry to hear of the difficulty reported with your vehicle and may we confirm that when your vehicle was supplied new it came with a 2 year manufacuturers warranty, which unfortunately has long since expired. Thereafter there is the possibility of goodwill support however, this is a voluntary service offered by the manufactuer to which there is no legal claim and is not intended to take care of all repairs irrespective of how an owner may view the failure it is also subject to criteria such as age, mileage and a full service history with an authorised repairer. However we would suspect that a goodwill contribution towards the cost of this repair has been exceeded by too great a margin, given the original first registration date of the vehicle. Please be advised that your authorised Mercedes-Benz repairer would be in a position to advise you further in this regard and also to carry out any repairs necessary to your vehicle.

Sounds like main stealer would have big influence in this decision.

Anyone heard of these repair peoples?

Any contacts for UK?
Probably will call specialist in Belfast area and go over once agreed.
Anyone had it done in Belfast?

Ive just gotten this message on my car tonight .

Im gonna contact my indy tomorrow , he has gotten pumps replaced FOC before ,lests hope he still can .

Il keep yeas posted

I called into my MB indy yesterday to find out if MB are still changing these pumps FOC ,he reckoned they still are and said it was determined if your car quailfied by giving them the cars chassis number .
So Im calling back round on Monday morning and he's gonna contact MB with my chassis number . He was confendent that my cat would qualify .

just got this message on my 11/05/04 w211 2.7 cdi how did you manage to sort it and did merc sort it? cheers tjew211 (belfast)

The message has not flash up since , so im wating for it to come up again so I can take the car and have it checked

Tonight my w211 E270cdi has just flashed the "Service Brakes visit workshop" on the malfunctions list on instrument cluster in white,
All the pads are above 60%, brake fluid is at the correct level, cruise control still works and turns off via the brake peddle and the SBC stop control feature still works as do the brakes.
The SBC pump still makes a noise as normal so any ideas what this could be?
I'm going to run a diagnosis using a Launch but can't do that till monday as my mates garage is shut over the weekend.
A couple of days ago the plastic rachet mechanism on my park brake peddle did break and lose a piece but the park brake works fine.
I have already spent £3000 on this so called Mercedes and i'm starting to lose all faith in the brand.
Could it be the brake switch although i did read that the brake switch controls the cruise control by switching it off as you touch the brakes and mine still does this.
Any help would be appreciated. :wallbash:

Mine used to flash up a Red warning " BRAKE PRESSURE LOW START ENGINE" when my unit needed replacing which was also replaced free of charge.

Did a scan this morning on a launch diagnostic smartbox and it came up with C249f Service threshold reached.
This means the SBC pump needs changing so went to Europa Mercedes in Sheffield and car is booked in for wednesday for them to do their own test and the guy said Mercedes should cover it but they need to test it on their own equipment to verify and send details to Mercedes.
My car is a 53 plate E270cdi with 148,000 miles and mercedes service history till 2007 then independant.

I've had the message flash up once but dissapeared just as quickly as it came and it hasn't been seen since (many, many months ago)

Have it changed at Mercedes expense, before it packs in.

My car went in to Europa Mercedes in Sheffield this morning and when they hooked it up to Star machine the SBC pump would not communicate with Star.
I signed a form at 2-30pm and was told they will phone me as soon as they hear back from Mercedes to see if they would cover the cost.
I got a phone call at 3-30pm from Europa telling me that Mercedes would be covering the cost of a replacement SBC pump and they will ring me when the parts arrive to book the car in. :bannana::bannana:
I'm very relieved that i won't have to pay towards this and just to clarify I wasn't asked about the cars service history or when the brake fluid was changed etc etc..
My car will be 8yrs old in December this year so after reading that in the uk we are covered until the car is 8yrs old i'm glad it happened 4mths before it's 8th birthday.
