Brake Warning Message - Urgent?

I have just turned 63,000 miles with a C service due in 1,700 miles. I have started to get an intermittent message on my speedo center screen saying " Brakes Warning - Visit service center" or something similar.
I know the brake pads and discs are original and to my knowledge not been replaced. The car is serviced at regular intervals under MB dealer in Tonbridge.
Question : Can I assume that this is the brake pads requiring replacement and as the message is intermittent I can wait until the next service probably in 6 weeks. The brake fluid level looks fine and the car is performing perfectly in all other areas. Im thinking just go to the dealer asap as better safe than sorry but appreciate your thoughts. Thanks

No you shouldn't wait - my friendly independant tells me to get them checked asap after the light comes on. Part of the reason being there are not sensors on every pad surface and one of the non-sensor ones could be completely worn.

I would get them done by an independant, and not pay the silly fixed labour rates at MB for the pads. I'd use MB genuine parts though !

Thanks Richard
I will get down to the MB Dealer ASAP. I have the Service Plus Contract which covers pads & discs. Time to get some of my £88 per month back!
