Hi, I have just changed the front disks and pads on my E320 CDI Est. I had noticed that I was getting a squeal from one of the disks. A friend told me not to woory about this as it was probably a stone caught in the disk as the car was fitted with brake wear sensors. This squeal never went away and when I investigated the pads had just about worn to the metal on the nearside.
As I replaced the disks and pads I discovered that there was no sensor fitted on the nearside brakes - Should there be a sensor on bothy sides?
The real moral of the story is don't put your trust in sensors (or friends) - especially for brakes!!!
