E220d premium estate
Hi I have a problem with my E 220 estate. It’s a 2019 car. I have noticed that my brakes are not engaging properly for the last few days, particularly at low speed/low gear. When I am approaching a roundabout for instance if I engage the break it doesn’t stop the car immediately. It can roll forward for a couple of seconds. I occasionally feel with a stuttering sensation in the pedal. Has anyone come across this before? My mechanic had a look but could not replicate my problem. He mentioned something about a possible software issue. It’s going in for a service as it’s due. Any thoughts on this issue brakes seem ok on higher speeds ?

I have just found out that it’s a brake pump vacuum failure. I can’t drive it as it’s treacherous.
The car has only 65000 km.
Any advice welcome.

Any advice is welcome. This car is less than four years old. I am told that it is out of warranty. I thought a fundamental item like brakes would not fail at this stage. I called Mercedes me but cannot get through. Not even an option to leave a message. No e mail on website to send a question for help. Currently borrowing a friends car. Just want an idea if this is fixable and approximate timeframe and cost.

Most likely the car needs to get to an MB dealer or a good independent MB specialist. I asked where you are in the hope that someone here knows of a good one locally to you. "Ireland" doesn't narrow it down much.

I have a few options. Just wondering about how long this will take and how much it will cost.

Of course it is fixable.

As to cost, well that will depend on what needs replacing, how much the parts and labour come to and who carries out the repair

It is a Bank Holiday in the UK so depending on where in "Ireland" you are this might add to the delay in receiving any response to your queries.

If the car was serviced by Mercedes in the last 12 months you should have access to Mobilo breakdown cover. If nothing else they should transport the car to a Mercedes dealer for no charge.

At this age I would be asking the dealer to apply for a goodwill payment toward any cost assuming you have no other warranty to call on?

Hi all. Just wondering typically how long it takes to get parts, specifically a brake vacuum pump.

What has the dealer said about parts delivery times?

There are so many variables with parts availability.

I’m waiting on a callback re parts and it depends on where they have to come from. I’m told it could take two weeks to get them. Then technicians could be on holidays at this time of year etc. So could well be over 3 weeks to get sorted. Is this standard with something that’s not routine ?

I doubt that all of the Technicians will be on holiday at same time. No business would operate like that.

Parts such as the one you need would be a relatively rare replacement so it would not make financial sense for MB to tie up money in holding such slow moving stock and it may have to be sourced from the original manufacturer.

Have you approached the dealer for a contribution by Mercedes toward the costs?

Thank you. Yes I have asked re costs and they are working on a solution. As the car is less than 4 years old im hoping it will be favourable. Hopefully the parts can be sourced without much of a delay.

For such a part to fail this early in the cars life does suggest a manufacturing fault so good luck with the repair 👍

Thank you. I will update on progress. Hopefully timescale will not be too lengthy.

Just an update. New part fitted by MB dealership and car back home. Much quicker than originally anticipated. Cost of repair covered. I’m happy with the outcome. Thank you all for advice.
