hmmm im thinking i might either do the work myself (a friend will do it for me) or sell as i do fancy the auto.
anyone know where is best to order breaks from ?

Euro Car Parts and German Swedish do BRAKES, that's BRAKE discs, BRAKE pads and BRAKE shoes..... ;) oh you might want some BRAKE fluid too..... :D

An independent will be able to sort out your brakes for about half the price. The components themselves are not expensive it is the labour that stacks up.

If you replace your car every time a consumable needs replacing then you will probably need a weekly subscription to Autotrader! Whatever car you get will likely need something doing every now and then.

I've edited the thread title for you btw :)

First of all, I'm surprised that considering that you paid £1000 for the car, you sent it for a service at the most expensive place on earth !

They would have charged you several hundred pounds for that service which consists of an oil and filter change plus the checks.

You could have gone to a good indie and had the service plus the brakes done for probably very little more than what you have shelled out for that service.

Too late now I know, but maybe it would have been better to seek advice on the service here before sending it in to MB ? Could have saved yourself a lot of money.

But surely he would already know that, judging by the list of cars he owns.

Just bought all the pads, discs and sensors for my "bangernomics" 124 E280T for £114 from GSF. VTech discs and Pagid pads, but I think ATE pads would have been better, as they lack a bit of bite so far.

Its not your pads, its the discs, Vtech are Chineeeeeeeeez

That explains the price! - I'll see how they bed in after Le Mans. The brakes were only advisories on the MoT, but I was tempted by the price, as I wasn't really thinking of keeping the car. They are an improvement on what was there before.

Ah, the brakes have been partly fixed.:D

it all depends on what you mean by "brakes". it could just be the pads etc.

whatever it is, do it yourself (or any garage) and do it cheaper!

dont sell a car just because it needs new brakes!!

Of course we are assuming it NEEDS new brakes - or was it a case of "your brake might not last until the next scheduled service sir, shall we change them now (for a mere £500) while the wheels are off to avoid the inconvenience of coming in again?".

desilva- i used MB because the cars service history from new is at the mb garage i use. i think it looks better on the cars paper work.

In the end i let MB do the work mainly for convenience but i do think i got an ok deal took 4 hours and they drove the car back to my door...

front/Rear - new disks and pads
new rear indicator bulbs
new side repeater bulbs
oil filter
new seal
screen wash
pollen filter
new oil
brake fluid
new rear brake flexi hoses
engine poly v belt
+ labour (156.90)

total. 441.36
