I have another one for all you MB Gurus.

Car- E320cdi 53-reg auto s211.

I have the break service message on the dash but here is the strange bit:

Breaks work fine.......but when I unlock the car with there is a sound coming from under the bonnet which sounds like the ABS pump is going off for approx 5-10 secs.

It is the same sound you hear when you make an emergency stop and you feel the ABS working.

What could this be?

Sounds like the SBC pump (nothing to do with ABS).

That feeling which feels like ABS is the pump building up pressure in the system. On other cars, you brake and a servo-assists but you are controlling the travel. With SBC, it is 'brake by wire' so the car does that but for you based on how far you push.

It is much louder when you unlock the car and it missed or didn't complete its cycle when you last turned it off.

I now press the brakes until I feel it go, then wait for it to finish and turn the car off.

It doesn't make the loud sound when I unlock it now.

If it is fairly quiet when you are driving - it is probably OK. If it is noisy, yours could be going...

Would that be a brake service?

Or a broken service?

Not loud and I cannot feel it during driving. The breaks seem pretty good.

I imagine it could be you need to replace pads or fluid needs changing.

It might brake well now but if you do nothing, that could change!
