I had this warning show on the display, So decided to take a closer look. Partly visible through the rims, the pads seemed ok and this was confirmed when I too the wheels off for a closer look. I did notice there was only one sensor on the drivers side front and nowhere else and this had bare uninsulated wires. I also looked at the springs, one of which I replaced recently. (RH front) The front ones had three red bars indicating sport suspension while the rears had three yellow bars indicating standard suspension. Now for the dilemma, which are correct relative to the dampers?

IIRC pad wear warnings are fitted to front offside and rear nearside only. The sensor wires are inside a little plastic 'pin' arrangement that is fitted into the brake pad. Obviously, the sensor needs to be replaced once it's worn away with the pad. The wires that run from the plastic sensor in the pad to the connector on the caliper look like they are bare copper, but I've found mine to be insulated - possibly a clear enamel coating.

To solve the damper dilemma, you'll need to check the options fitted to your specific vehicle. I *think* it's option 354 when you have sport suspension. Alternatively, clean up the dampers and see if you can read the original M-B part code.

Ian.
