Have you ever been let down by your Mercedes other than for a puncture. We are talking, complete non starters or mechanical/electrical failure causing you to be immobilised.

If you have how old was the car when it let you down.

C180 1997 model owned 3 years travelled 33000 miles no complete breakdowns.
C200 2000 model (w202) 4 years travelled 65000 miles no complete breakdowns.

So thats 98000 miles no breakdowns ie 0 breakdowns/98000 miles.
Add your details and keep the average calculation going cumulatively eg. 10 breakdowns in 500000 miles and so on!!!

Greg - that is so tempting fate!!

8000miles 0 breakdowns

so

0 breakdowns in 106000 miles

i'm gonna give myself the kiss of death!

6500 miles ok so far
Prev Seat Ibiza Cupra 3 years 0 breakdowns 40,000

W211 E320CDi.

Bought new November 2002.

Refused to start December 2003.

Refused to start January 2004.

It's been good since then though

Sorry I should have mentioned my two previous cars.

1986 C220 Elegance, 120,000mls without any problems, best car ever.

2000 C240 Sport, 60,000mls air-con relay went funny but perfect other than that.

My old C230 1997: 169k with 0 breakdowns
My old 200e 1986: 53k with 0 breakdowns
My old 600SEL 1994: 77K with no breakdowns
My old 240TD 1984: 100k with 0 breakdowns
My old E230 1996: Had 160K when bought, 220k when i crashed it but 0 breakdowns!

I'm not saying anything about my current cars because i'm not tempting fate!!

But listen to this. My friend bought a S500 2001 model. He is the original owner and has now done 40,000 miles. He has had 5 breakdowns! Car wouldn't start, doors wouldn't open, engine malfunction light came on etc. Apart from the breakdown the air suspension has been replaced twice and he has made approx 20 visits to his dealer to fix faults on the car! Either he's having some serious bad luck or Merc's standards are dropping!

Try and keep doing the maths as we go along like Pammy did. I reckon we are upto 518500 miles and 2 breakdowns which is WOW for reliability. Keep going now weve got it started.

50,000 C 220 cdi 0 breakdowns
30,000 CL 420 0 breakdowns (gearbox did go pop, but could still drive)

598500 2 breakdowns

A160 1999-2001 17000 miles ... aprox 4 breakdowns

Gearbox kept crashing rendering the car useless till you reset it and the rear suspension gave way which made me ever so happy

C240 2001-2003 40,000 miles. not even a peep at anything going wrong.

C180 Kompressor 2003-present. 13,000 miles. 3 breakdowns.

Engine leaked oil over my driveway and had to be collected at 1 week old on the back of a lorry.

Engine misfired and went into limp mode ( totally useless) at the GTG. Had to call mobilo to reset the engine. 4800 miles.

Windscreen wipers stoped wiping 5,500 miles. Called mobilo fixed on my driveway.

Apart from that ... pretty good :p there is prob more that i can't remember just now. Im not even coming to the older ones we had with those cheap ass alarms with the single button to lock/unlock.

668500 miles 9 breakdowns (2 for w211s, 4 a class, 3 w203s.......7 of them being Fuzzers!)

W202 C230K.

1 MAS failure leaving car unable to start in 43K miles.

Don't understand your maths, someoneelse can do it!

190E 118,000 miles, owned it for 7 days. melted piston 200 miles from home  Glad I am a member of RAC with get me home cover. On a posative point. My replacement engine (fitted by me, obtained from seller) was sweet as a nut. I only got rid of it because I was offered at a very competative rate a 260E :D

Dont get me started on the events of last Oct.

One day my keyfob died, so I used the spare. Next day that died.

I tried to get into my car manually with the 'key' part of it, thus activating the immobiliser and setting the alarm off.

I had to call the AA who took 4 hours trying to get it running called it a day.

Next day I was towed to the MB dealers where I had to wait 10 days without my car only to discover a £289 bill :( for 2 new keys and pugging it into there STAR computer :(

24,000 trouble free miles in 16 months. 62k on the clock now. A few quirks and gremlins, but no mechanical issues, and certainly no breakdowns.

B Service carried out in Germany at a very reasonable £300.

Next service almost due ! Hmmm... where to take it this time ?

...

C230K 1999 purchased 16,400 , now on 59,000 that's 42,600 miles, no breakdowns and on 1 set of continental tyres now needing replacing
Rgds

Sorry Greg, the maths are now a bit messed up, but I'll add mine ...

208 . 60k . 0 breakdowns

[long may it continue :) ]

106000 miles and 1 breakdown.
But the ONE breakdown happened bigtime on a Friday evening 17:30 on M25.
Fuel pump over heating. Changed fuel pump and it is working ok.

By my reckoning - that gives us:

Greg.........33000 0 breakdowns - running total.....33000 - 0
...............65000 0..........................................98000 - 0
Pammy........8000 0........................................106000 - 0

...............53000 0........................................514500 - 2
...............77000 0........................................591500 - 2
..............100000 0.......................................691500 - 2
...............60000 0........................................751500 - 2
Guy..........50000 0....................................... 801500 - 2
...............30000 0........................................831500 - 2
Fuzz.........17000 4........................................848500 - 6
...............40000 0........................................888500 - 6
...............13000 3........................................901500 - 9
Graham.....43000 1........................................944500 - 10
Ian.........118000 1.......................................1062500 - 11
SYM.........24000 0.......................................1086500 - 11
Les...........42600 0......................................1129100 - 11
Flyer.........60000 0......................................1189100 - 11
DJCheung 106000 1......................................1295100 - 12

The maths is a tad skewed as many of these cars have not been owned from new - who knows what happened before they were in our care  Some have given the miles they have done in a car - in those cases I have taken the known trouble free milage quoted :D

Karl - you didn't give us any milage so I haven't included yours!

Either way - it makes pretty impressive reading - and like most marques, you get the goodies and the baddies - odd how they migrate - aint it Fuzzer :D :D

I'd had my 280E about 6 months when it would not start after a weekend in the garage. A battery charger sovled the problem briefly.
A new battery was fitted a week later, replacing the original.

So car was 8 1/2 years old, about 114,000 miles at the time.

Q. Is 8 1/2 years a record for battery life ?

Last Friday night the Command system would not switch off, so on Saturday morning the battery was flat. A phone call to Mobilo life (8.30am) and a visit at 1.00pm to reset the command & jump start.

So E55 11,000 miles and 1 breakdown

CL55 12,000 miles & 0 breakdowns
ML55 32,000 miles & 0 breakdowns
C32 10,000 miles & 0 breakdowns
C43 40,000 miles & 0 breakdowns
C220 120,000 miles & 2 breakdowns (starter motor)
SL500 20,000 miles & 1 breakdown (alarm system)
ML320 20,000 miles & 0 breakdowns
C220 CDi 70,000 miles & 2 breakdowns (starter motor)
300CE 50,000 miles & 0 breakdowns
190 170,000 miles & 0 breakdowns

That all adds up to 555,000 miles & 6 non start breakdowns
