Om642. 231 horse version in a W212 E350 CDI. 2010 model.

My car could do with a new breather as it leaks slightly and causes an oil haze to form on it.
My car has one of these...

.....which is used in conjuction with one of these.....

But the slightly later versions use one of these one piece items...without the centre round plastic part.

So my questions are, are they interchangeable and is there any advantage or issues from using the newer design. I assume it was changed for a reason. The later one piece one is certainly lots cheaper! Thanks in advance for any help.

Maybe....but does anyone know if they are interchangeable. All I can find out is that fitted them after a certain engine number....but not why they changed or if you can fit the newer one to the earlier engine numbers.

It looks like the fittings are in the same, so I have thought it will physically fit, you will need the later red seal, as they are different from the older version, you can get them pretty cheaply on eBay, might be worth a try.

Thanks....that one in my pic has got the later seal... the jubilee clip holding it in placs is the giveaway....just black instead of red.

From memory that round bit was a type of valve that opens and closes via a membrane floating on a spring , possibly opening up the harder the engine was revved, was prone to clogging and sticking and eventually leaking. I found that new version is available for all om642 equipped vehicles from 2010 onwards . Possibly made from a stronger pipe without the need for that valve. ?

Your vin schematics even shows both . Latter version copies are available on eBay for £50/£60 if you can trust them.
