For years I have considered a Breitling watch at some point. However the price puts it into a totally different category than say a Tissot.

Apart from the quartz driven Colts, I appreciate the intricate automatic movements, but are they worth the money?

Anyone with a Breitling on the forum?

It is a luxury product and the price you have to pay is borne by the market forces. You want to join their club, you pay the price required to display the badge.

Generally the same for all luxury goods.

Saying that, I do like Breitling watches - but I seem to remember buying a Rotary upon your advice a while back ;)

I have one and it's impressive but too bulky to wear daily, I wear my Rolex more now.

Too blingy dem Breitlings .. My opinion etc etc...
Got 2 Omega's ( not vauxhalls) one posh and one Bondish , the posh one's rrp has gone up 2 grand over the last 2 yrs.. Money for old rope probably

Rotary produce a Gents Chronograph that is a Brietling Navitimer look a like.

Very smart looking watch. have a look on ebay.

It depends on what you want from a watch. If you want a watch that is spot on then a quartz watch will suffice. If however you want a watch with a soul then buy a manual wind or an automatic. Breitling recommend a service every four years, it will be stripped, cleaned, and lubricated. They even fit new hands, it is returned in a travel case that you can sell on ebay, new Brietlings come in a box (Made of Bakelite) the last one I listed sold for £56. The value of anything is what someone is willing to pay for it. Top end watches are like cars, better to buy used with service history.

I have a Navitimer World with the Aligator strap (less bling) on my wrist on non-client days, Omega Seamaster (old Bond wave design) for everyday use and the Omega is far more robust... When I dropped my Breitling the repair bill alone was £1,095 - a nice watch, but a bit fragile!

It helps of course if you can buy somewhere like the US... and in 2007 when I bought mine it was almost $2 to the £1

If you want understated class however something like an IWC can be very tasteful, but they are serious £££.

On my third Omega here so far - they're less bling than Breitlings and more discrete and wearable.

List price of mine has also gone up loads since I bought it too - might be able to sell it cost neutral or even make something on it when I change it!

... and I bought my Omega in Costco of all places - it was almost £300 under high street prices at the time and I'd bet it's worth more now than I paid (10 years ago).

Sent my Omega seamaster automatic for a service the other month , had it 12 odd yrs .., £320 .. Oosh

My Breitling, worn every day for the last 12yrs. I don't think it's "too bling", quite workman like?

Gets a service every 3yrs (cost £300 last time!), goes back to Breitling, takes approx 12weeks (recertification takes 6 weeks) and comes back like new. Every scratch is polished out!

I've always thought that Breitling watches were a bit 80's Top Gun, although the one in Tans link looks classy.

That's nice though , new ones seem a bit too Bentley.
Would love a Panerai though , would trade the posh one for one but they keep their money like a historic Porsche..

I rather like this model Panerai (yes, I know it's a rep but it's the only picture I could find quickly!)

The new ones are just too big.

I have an Aerospace from the 90's (see this thread http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/ot-off-topic-forums/124828-breitling-b1-aerospace-titanium.html )

I like the titanium watches as they weigh nothing and are less bling than the shiny ones.

I did also own a Navitimer Montbrillant which is slightly smaller than the full size Navitimer (read normal size) this was a lovely watch.

The Aerospace is my perfect watch, I bought one in the early 90's and sold it. Regretted selling it so much I bought another of the the same model. It's now my perfect watch and although I look at watches, for me this is what I like and I'll never let this one go.

I wouldn't say this is 'bling'. Great watch, worn every day for years. The case and strap are titanium so it weighs next to nothing, while the sapphire crystal is still completely unmarked.
