We're spending a week in Germany and then another in Norway next year so i've booked to go on the MB factory tour in Bremen :bannana:

Has anyone else been on this tour??? what can we expect apart from a lot of robots lol ??

I can't tell you what to expect.

I can tell you I'm totally jealous. Bet it'll be a great experience.

We're on the waiting list for a McLaren Technology Centre tour in Woking. We can't wait.

Let us know how you get on Daz.

Ant.

PS. Just noticed you're from Hyde. We moved to Scotland 9 years ago from Denton.

We did the VW one a couple of years ago and was a tad disappointed as you have to stay on the train - the MB one is a walk around job i believe.

I'll be sure to report back although i suspect photos will not be allowed.

Bit of a change from Denton although i suspect it's a bit wetter, if that's possible lol

I was there during the construction phase when it was known as the paragon centre. A lot of innovative material went into that build. I got the tour when it was completed which would be about 10 years ago now I think and they tell me it's expanded massively since then.

Hope you enjoy.

The Williams Engineering Headquarters and Cosworth Engineering are also worth a visit. Not on the scale of Mclaren but very technical and impressive

Don't miss the U boat museum in Bremerhaven .

Yes, I know many people that have been on the tour very recently. They say it's a great insight. (Only 4 hours though). They built a massive building on the side to build their McLaren road cars since you were there but I don't think that's part of the tour. Being a building kinda person myself I'm sure I'll be amazed by it all.

We got an invite 10 years ago but our daughter was only 3 days old so we declined. Now Emily is 10 she can come on the tour also and 10 is the minimum
Age allowed.

Cheers Ian.

We did a tour of the Bremen facility when picking up our new CLK in '07. Started with a short film about MB history, followed by being bussed to the SLK and finally CLK production lines.

Yes, it is full of robots in the early stages of body construction but then each car is crawling with assembly workers when being fitted out. It is fascinating to walk along the overhead walkways looking down at the assembly lines. We obviously had a good reason to go to the factory anyway and I wasn't too sure my wife would enjoy the tour, but even she thought it interesting. The chap who took our tour is a very amusing Irish fella who's lived in Bremen for many years, so would be a bonus if you got him.

Bremen itself is worth a walk round when you've finished the factory tour.

Oh and, not surprisingly, cameras definitely not allowed in the factory.

Worked in Bremen for two years. As said by Lotiman, robots are really only in the body shop.
I was there when they were producing CLKs in a small assembly hall, including the CLK Black Series.
I mainly worked in the SLK hall.

We're in Bremen for a concert in the evening anyway, just looked where the hotel is compared to the pickup for the tour and it's a 15 min walk, result.

That video was interesting, thanks for that. Tickets arrived today, only booked on monday, more german efficiency lol
