Bloody Hell - I think Peter's wide was lucky. Glad she was able to walk away, and she was lucky not to have been in an older motor, where the loads not soaked up by the car may have been greater

Blimey that looks like quite an impact.

That is quite shocking. Well done MB for making safe cars

The other thing which the Body Shop men at Brentford had not seen before was the new Knee Air Bag which inflates below the Steering Wheel. Anna has one or two marks on her legs but no pain.

You have to remember that modern safety design means that the car crumples and disintegrates much more than we may expect - that how the energy is "removed".

All the same, hope wifey recovers soon.

Its good it wasn't the C43 in the sense that the W202 C-class only got an NCAP rating of 2 stars!!!

Very true...

A colleague of mine was heading in to work a couple of years ago minding his own business, doing around 35-40mph round a left-hander (40mph limit, rural road) when he was confronted with an Astra van coming towards him at a similar speed on his side of the road. Result: head-on collision. Fortunately he was driving his other half's then almost new A3 and not his Elise or MkII Golf GTI. He was badly shaken and very bruised but otherwise uninjured and to this day is convinced he would have died had he been in either of his cars.

The guy driving the Astra was an East-European bloke who had been in the UK for less than a month and turned right out of a factory entrance he'd been working in as a cleaner overnight. He was tired and had reverted to driving on the right. We all genuinely felt really sorry for him.

Was the other driver hurt?

He was, and it was multiple injuries. From memory they included a broken leg, broken ankle and a chest injury. Not a happy start to life in a new country :(

Bl***y Hell!!!! thats a serious crash.
I know I am paying a premium for a MB car and I guess thats why you pay it for.

Looking at the photos Anna is very lucky........take care of her Pete.

Maybe you should get the new c63 as the C43 replacement. You know its pretty safe

How long before it pops up on ebay as a Cat D repair?

At least the bonnet star survived...

But seriously, glad to hear the lady driving was OK. That looks like quite a substantial impact and in an older car may well have been a different story. How bad was the damage to the other car?

My dad's 04 Toyota Avensis has airbags everywhere, including knee airbags. Surprised its taken Merc until now to start introducing them.

wow, agreed. lucky she was in such a safe car.

Looks quite messy!

Having rolled a w202 I can tell you they're still pretty safe dispite missing a star or two on the test. Where they probably fall down a bit is pedestrian safety which wasn't such a hot issue back in the early 90s when they designed it.

Any chance it could "go missing" to help out a fellow member who recently lost theirs? ;) Only kidding - it's theft or insurance fraud whichever comes first.

You are probably right, but i do recall that the engine intrusion into the driver's footwell being the issue, which in this accident would've proved deadly, especially with a 4.3 V8 trying to make its way onto your lap.
