Had a disaster today and bricked my ECU whilst reflashing it back to stock, Just hope there is no chance of frying it when trying to recover it as its £1500 for a new one.

Also does anyone know if you can use a second hand one as MB Leicester say that they are coded to the car and cannot be recoded to a new car. I find that hard to believe as people do sell them from breakers.
Has anyone ever replaced there ECU with a second hand one and had it programmed ?

As I understand it, many ECUs on a Mercedes car are coded to the car, and once coded cannot be re-coded to another car using a 'normal' STAR diagnosis system. However, it may be possible to recode an ECU using Developer Mode (and it certainly allow the copying of a ECU configuration to another ECU) although I have not tried this myself.

On a different forum that specialises in general automotive issues, I have seen several discussions where people had used Vediamo to 'virgin' a Mercedes ECU.
