£1600 for Gearbox only!!,

£200 for taking the old one out and fitting the new one! which includes fluids, gaskets etc which isnt bad.

then add £100 which i still owe him for the recovery! 52 miles away!

Ouch Alps!! Sorry to hear this is gonna cost sooo much :(
Are you going to keep the old gearbox for spares just in case? or can't you trade the old one in to knock some of the new price?

S.

thanks steve

that is the "trade in" price!

£2353 +VAT with no trade in!!!!

Bloody Hell!!! sorry for the bad language but you should have heard what I originally said. Thinks we should all start putting together a Red Cross food parcel for Alps. Good luck friend.

donations accepted gratefully

UPDATE 2:-

well after a week sitting on a ramp, my mate at "prestige car specialists" rang me up on staurday morning (11am) and said my gearbox had arrived from Germany and was sitting at Edware rd mercedes, he went and collected it and at 6 pm i got a call saying all was well and it was ready to collect.

drove the car and it was changing gear fine, although still whining a bit when changing at high Revs... i was told that this was because it was a new gearbox and it would need to be run in a little before it quietens down.

drove it to silverstone the next day and back and it was silent after that!

cars sorted thanks to "prestige car specialists" highly recomended. he even reset the gearbox back to learn mode so it picks up my style of driving (something only a main dealer can normally do!)

Glad you got it sorted Alps.

How many miles did the gearbox have on it, just out of interest?

BTW, resetting the gearbox is not just the dealer's domain...Andy Gayle reset mine when I last had mine serviced. This was instead of dropping the fluid out of it - a kind of "see how you get on" gesture.

Seems better, although I hope the major difference will come next service when the fluid is changed.

Best of luck with this one!

Greg

Glad to hear it's all sorted now!

Actually, I think if you get the sequence right, anyone can do that! You have to select certain gears and use the W/S switch with the ignition on/off etc, search the web, I have seen this explained before! :)

I'm not aware of that Nick, but I'll bow to your superior knowledge. AFAIK, The method Andy Gayle used was via the box of tricks they hook up to the car's Diag socket. The reset is performed that way.

Yes, but don't forget you can also reset the ASSYST computer if you press the right buttons in the right order, no diagnostic computer needed for that operation either! :)

greg, i stand corrected :)

the old box only had 58k on it, but then i dont know how the previous drivers treated the car!

shude, thanks im glad its sorted too! lets hope this one lasts a bit longer!

now i can save up to get the key mark taken out which was done xmas time!! :(

never ending story!

driving down the A12 yesterday and went to overtake at about 80mph, when the gearbox kicked down into 3nd and stayed there "limp mode" had to drive 15 miles at 30 mph, left the car at my mechanics, he thinks its a simple reset job, he said new gearboxes do do this frim time to time but he`ll give it a checkover!

this is a pain!

just had a call back from him, he said the new gearbox had detected a slip hence went into protection mode. he has reset it, he said to drive it about for a week and see if it happens again, if it does, then its time for a warrenty claim and a new gearbox....AGAIN!!!!!

will keep ya all informed!

At least you have a warranty to cover you this time, Phew!!

Damned inconvenient though, eh?
