OOPS! Reversing out of garage today just the same as every other day. But today managed to snap the drivers/offside mirror recoil system Beyond repair I,m afraid, 2 of the metal connections fractured. rest of mirror OK   Some questions.
1. do the coupe and saloon of the same vintage share the same mirror design.
2. did the mirror design stay the same during the run of the w124 series.
3.Apart from the colour coding in the later facelift models are the basic innards the same?
4. Is transfering the colour coded shell from my broken mirror unit to another second hand unit feasible?
5.cost of 2nd hand unit and good source.

or should I just buy a replacement?

electric adjust not manual.

Thanks for the heads up Andy but my mirror is electrically adjusted ! or should I say it WAS electrically adjusted  Since its the spring loaded recoil system thats broken I might be able to transfer the head unit across to a manual unit if the door triangular mounting plate was the same size etc??? dont know

Wing mirror progress report

I have now determined that mercedes mirrors are made by a German company calle ULO. they have a comprehensive web site see http://cgi.ulo.de/cgi-bin/pages_en/...ikel=1&cherst=3&cfahrztyp=110&cmodl=536&cart=
Dont know if they have a UK agent or not
I also found a website that supplies aftermarket body panels for Mercs and includes mirrors. http://www.beeversautopanels.co.uk/ their price for a replacement door mirror RH (elec/heat) was £70+vat compared to dealer quote of £164+vat. It would appear from anecdotal evidence from the net that the w124 and w201 mirrors are the same also??? but dont know for certain. ANY MORE INFO WELCOME!!

I think the manual mirrors were the same - there's an awful lot of parts that are interchangeable but I don't know about the electric ones.

Andy

I have an electrical one if you need it (never one to give up a chance eh :D )

For anyone following this thread,ULO have finallyreplied to my enquiry that Eurocarparts and GSF are agents for their products  They dont list mirrors on their websites but maybe a direct enquiry would work? I hope to post some pics of the broken mirror innards soon.
