Budget 2006 - Vehicle Tax

They pay more than there fair share for the upkeep and maintenance of the road, but footpaths are for pedestrians.
I bet the same builders work on the house and then repair the road/pavement for the council, double-whammy!

Has anyone noticed how many of the hundreds of cars currently on sale qualify for the lowest band of car tax under Gordon's budget?

Go on, have a guess.

Precisely 0. Why did he bother??

Meanwhile, loads of everyday, average family cars have had an increase, not just the headline grabbing 4x4s.

It's all cobblers my C230k engine costs me £175 yet if that same engine was in a car purchased after 31/3/2001 (IIRC) it costs £210 . Go figure.

The sooner this we are rid of this tax and flush government the better!

I saw one of those little electric cars drive by whilst in town over the weekend (I certainly didn't hear it drive by!).

A cute idea but only really useful if you drive from point A inside London to point B also inside London and don't need to go on any fast roads as they'll only do 40mph.

I wonder if you could buy one and then fit it with the engine out of a Fireblade? :)

EDIT: Fetish, in the bottom bracket :)

Somehow that just does not sound right?

John the cheeky oops!!

That would be even funnier if you had watched Larry David squirm on Curb Your Enthusiasm on Sunday night ;)

G-Whizz indeed!

A top speed of 40 mph and a range of 40 miles - does that count as a car ??

And when was the last time you saw a Fetish ?? (er ..., the car that is)

One of these things (like a Fiat 126 that got squeezed flat in a vice)?

I see them from time to time in London, there's also one in Woking (where I live). Love the Fireblade conversion idea :D

£8,300 for a G-Wiz. G ******* wiz!!

I think I would rather by one of those kids electric carts from Toys R Us for £300-ish. Probably quicker, and definitely less of an embarassment to 'drive'.

This is the vehicle Shude referred to.

Shame about the price.

Perfect car for the school run.

Just seen a couple of kids being collected from a neibours across the road.

I doubt a £40 tax hike is going to make much of a dent here. The engine was left idleing for about 20 minutes, that's probably the £40 gone.

Have you kindly blacked out the reg no?

What a truly vulgar vehicle. The greatest of respect to the family, but......

Are you suggesting I shouldn't buy one then?
Don't worry John, it wasn't their car or kids.

Can you spot two MB in the photograph?

Thank goodness I did not offend you :)

First look for something silver, then white van man :D

Still the cheapest car to own the UK! 50p for a recharge, <1p mile running costs, practically no servicing needed other than brakes, very cheap insurance, no road tax and no congestion charge. Also the depreciation is probably quite low due to niche market.

So how do I work out what mine is going to be. Cost me £170 in January.

Based on your 1999 E280 i'd say £175 - pre 31/3/2001 so uses old tables and >1.59 litre size engine.
