You're kidding right? It surpassed all kinds of limits years ago. What are we up to now, something like 80-90% of the price of fuel . . . is TAX!!!!!!

:) So you reckon it will be going up in September then? :D

To be honest, I surprised that they've left it alone for the last few years.

;) Agreed, but I suppose the Chancellor is informed of levels that tend to encourage tax evasion..... Or smuggling. Illegal diesel is already a terrible problem in Northern Ireland and I am sure our HGV owners have some very interesting tales to tell.

Once these levels are reached then putting up tax revenue simply encourages more folks to break the law, so less revenue is collected. I wonder just how bad cigarette smuggling is and how much money is lost because of illegal activities?

In the summer when we get stuck in huge traffic jams on the motorway, I look across at all the cars and try to comprehend just how much money is pouring into the Treasury?????? It is mind boggling. Bumper to bumper of three lane traffic spreading over miles and miles with each vehicle averaging perhaps 25mpg???? and each gallon is taxed at an extortionate rate. Unbelieveable. We should all have our own dentist\gp\surgeon :)

The Smart can't be bought here, and teh honda has been discontinued (alledgedly)

If you want a Smart CDi PM me as we import them, only LHD at the moment but they are so tiny it hasn't bothered me for the last 7 years!! Should get about 80 MPG or 100 MPG if you are light footed too!

Yep. There are some posh houses up the road from me that have had loads of building work done to them. This has meant constant trucks carrying building supplies, cement mixers, lots of white vans etc. The nice bits of grassed area on the pavement have been destroyed and have huge tyre tread marks through them and all the paving stones have been cracked due to trucks parking completely on the pavement (it is a narrow road).

The council wait until all the work is done and then tarmac the pavement! It looks awful but is probably cheaper than paving stones. Either way the whole area looks awful now, next to £400k+ houses.
.....

Well unfortunately how else is the council going to fund early retirement ( 85 year rule ) for their lazy army of workers to retire at 60...they ve got to cut back somewhere, and this will just be the start......

winge winge winge, if you can afford a merc you can afford the road tax, don't like it buy a Ka.
