Engineering is always fascinating but on this scale, the logistics are mind-boggling.

Just imagining what it must have been like to be a combat engineer - doing something similar whilst under fire.

Some things go up - others have to come down!;)

Because of this and other works the A90 at Dalmeny was shut last weekend. Only one matrix sign on the M8 eastbound to J2 and we were heading to Perth for soup and a sarnie. Missed the sign and ended up going via M90 to Linlithgow then back past Hopetoun House. Single lane southbound over the bridge stretched for miles.

NB. It's open this weekend but closed again next 14th and 15th for more works.

I have been fortunate to work on some major projects in my career and with some very clever people both designers and contractors.

The roof lift on Terminal 5 at Heathrow was amazing as was the erection and move across the airport of the new Control Tower using SPMT's. The erection of the 3 steel bridges to join the Borough Market viaduct at London Bridge Station was another major piece of work. The plate girders weighed 1 tonne per metre and were delivered by road in the middle of the night. They had to be moved and lifted into place over a 24 hour period.
Finally there was the slip formed bunker and the bridge lift at the Energy from Waste at Belvedere which used the largest mobile crane in Europe. Happy days!

Could be the topic for a gtg???
