Bullitt Car Chase

Watched it with the TV sound through the hi-fi and turned up - both V8s during the car chase sounded amazing + a brilliant tension building music score from Lalo Schifrin.

Good chase, terribly continuity :D

Didn't 8 wheel caps fall off one car IIRC ?
Didn’t see it last night , but have the DVD somewhere .

Yep , continuity awful , same action from multiple cameras used over and over , kept missing that same Beetle .

Other movies with great car chase soundtracks include Gone in 60 seconds ( the remake with Nicholas Cage ) and Ronin , where Robert DeNiro and Jean Reno chase down some bad guys in a 6.9 , love when DeNiro pops out the sunroof with a bazooka to show the frenchies what happens when you impede progress of an S Class :-D

Here's that Ronin car chase. To my mind still the best car chase ever

Love the 5 series and the duel with with 6.9

That's when BMWs were proper BMWs too.

That driving in the tunnel just looks like regular BMW driving to me... :D

This is the one I liked ,

Continuity error here too : after traffic lights shootout , DeNiro gets into back seat behind driver ; next shot he’s in front passenger seat .

Ronin is a great film .. it was on recently and I've got on the DVR to watch when I get time :)

On the other hand tt's a good demonstration of reuse of the same setups with different camera positions to extend the amount of useful footage available to the editors and use it to tell the story.

How many in the audience back in the 1960s noticed on first viewing?

We now get to see lots of reruns of favourite movies. The fact that we still talk about this sequence even though we see its flaws shows they did something very right in putting it all together (stunts, camerawork, setups, direction, editing, sound, scoring)!

Anyone else think De Niro looks like he’s struggling to do a poo when he’s pretending to drive fast?

IIRC- SMcQ did all his own driving AND the special effects were real and not CGI...Oh how I miss the days where men were men and not millennials....

Sadly something that most people born after 1995 (ish) will never understand.

Yes , he did , but then he was an accomplished driver , and had his own Ford GT40 .

I prefer how us Brits do it - old skool style.

The robbers four-up in their Jag, the police just behind in theirs:

Van Der Valk , before he changed sides ;)

Our Steve did a hell of a job in Bullitt, the only sad bit, is the Mustang soundtrack was a dubbed GT40, probably his own. The story and continuity were poor by any standards but that hasn't stopped me watching that chase over and over and over.

Barry Foster also played the baddie in Hitchcock's "Frenzy"
