Bumper crack

Greetings,

I've just reversed into something that made a small crack in my rear bumper, about half an inch long and maybe quarter inch wide. I don't know what these bumpers are made of nowadays, but I'm guessing some sort of fibreglass or similar by the looks of it: it's as if the shiny top layer has come off, revealing a woven fibre underneath, if that makes any sense.

Any thoughts on what I should do to get it sorted, and how much the various options would cost approximately? I have a feeling if I take it to MB they'll probably want to sell me a whole new bumper...

The car's a two-year-old E-class estate, in case that makes any difference, in 'Obsidian black' paintwork.

Happy to post a picture if it would help.

What ever one has fuel in it!
A good bodyshop with the correct tools will be able to repair it for you and shouldn't cost more then a couple of hundred pounds

It's the sort of thing that can be repaired by dent repair or shop specialising in motorcycle plastics etc etc. The issue is the painting after the repair. Likely it would need the whole bumper sprayed for best effect on a two year old car and the cost depends on area.
I would ask on this forum for recommended paint shops in your area.

Thanks for the replies so far. Couple of hundred ££ sounds reasonable I suppose, although to be honest I wouldn't have struggled to come up with other uses for the money... Maybe I should talk to my insurers to see if they'd pick up the tab.

Anybody care to venture a guess on what an MB main dealer might do if I left it to them?

...so, could anyone please recommend one in the Reading / High Wycombe area, or more generally Bucks/Berks/Oxon?

Mercedes will put a new bumper on it and hand you a bill for over £1,000
Wouldn't worry about insurance as your excess has to be the same money as the repair would cost.
I have a bodyshop in Chobham so maybe to far out for you but I'm sure other members will be able to recommend a good repairer close to you

If you're looking for someone that knows motorcycle plastics, then Revolution on the west side of Reading are your people.
