It appears some astronauts had a bit of a narrow squeak yesterday during re-entry. http://www.cbc.ca/cp/science/080419/g041904A.html Korea's first woman astronaut, Yi So-yeon spent 10 days in space before joining U.S. astronaut Peggy Whitson and Russian flight engineer Yuri Malenchenko in the 3 1/2-hour, bone-jarring descent from the International Space Station.
After entering the atmosphere, the TMA-11 capsule for some reason began a "ballistic trajectory."      which Russian Mission Control spokesman Valery Lyndin says subjects the crew to G-forces more than double what occur under normal circumstances and resulted in a return about 20 minutes late and some 420 kilometres off target.

On a lighter note in contrast to what might have been a tragic Challenger type incident, you can tell Federal Space Agency chief Anatoly Perminov was Russian from the slightly non PC comment of the "women drivers" variety when questioned about the presence of 2 women on board. Challenged by a reporter, Perminov responded: "This isn't discrimination. I'm just saying that when a majority (of the crew) is female, sometimes certain kinds of unsanctioned behaviour or something else occurs, that's what I'm talking about."
