Haggis tonight for us even though we are not scotch..

Lived in Glasgow for a while and met Mrs B there - despite this many happy memories of the place.

Happy Burns Night or whatever you say up there.

Ade :D

Not that I'm that Scottish, and no Haggis tonight, but I am seized with a sudden and un-requitable desire for some Stornaway Black Pudding just now. Happy Burns night to all our Scottish members!

Happy Burns Night - from a wee tim'rous beastie...

Slainthe mhor!

I shall celebrate with a quality single malt.

I LOVE haggis, neeps and tatties. mmmmmmm

I've heard that as part of a Burns night dinner someone has to address the haggis. Seems a bit odd. What do you do for the postage? Have a whip-round or something? :dk:

Happy Burns Night to MBClub's many Scottish members!

Cheers,

Gaz

I am currently in Leven Fife and this afternoon outside Sainsburys there was an ensemble of Pipers giving it their all. I recognised Scotland The Brave -- but the other tunes eluded me.Happy Burns night .

I had haggis neeps and tatties yesterday at lunchtime, but i'm not scottish... but do live here.

"A prince can mak a belted knight,
A marquis, duke, an' a' that;
But an honest man's abon his might,
Gude faith, he maunna fa' that!
For a' that, an' a' that,
Their dignities an' a' that;
The pith o' sense, an' pride o' worth,
Are higher rank than a' that"

The Robert Burns " Complex" was relaunched a few days ago. BBC News - New Scots Makar opens Robert Burns Birthplace Museum I term it " complex" because the "experience" exists over several sites including the original Cottage, Alloway Auld Kirk and the Museum. http://www.burnsmuseum.org.uk/images/stories/Downloads/illustrated map.pdf Now run by the National Trust for Scotland the best centre is the museum with amply parking etc. Well worth a visit to get a flavour of the bard.:thumb:

Visited the cottage as a kid. The Tam o' Shanter 'brig' is what I remember best. I used to have the poem read to me as a kid. Magical!

My favourite. Just wish I bided by it sometimes.

O wad some Power the Giftie gie us,
Tae see oorsels as ithers see us,
It wad frae monie a blunder free us,
An’ foolish notion.
O Lord,
Gie us a guid conceit o’ oorsel’s

My old man read Tam O Shanter to me when I was a kid.

As I became an adult (or tried) he was apt to quote these 2 lines at me.

O wad some Power the Giftie gie us,
Tae see oorsels as ithers see us,

I wonder why?!!!

No a Scot as far as I know but he also had a way with words.

"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace"

Jimi Hendrix

Rabbie [ a "rock star" of his day] and Jimmy both shared an appreciation for the fairer sex.
