Thinking about buying a 300SEL with approx 228, 000km. However, I have heard horror stories about breakdowns and parts prices. I have owned previous high end cars like Linciln and am aware of the exceptional ride and quality, BUT, the 228,000km really worries me.
I have only done minor repairs like water pumps, alternators etc myself, but I do not pretend to be a mechanic, or anything close to that, and so most of my repairs will have to be done at a garage.
Should I:
1. Buy a lower km car , say in the 100,000km range? and a SE?
2. Buy Asian model like Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Lexus or Inifiniti in the 1997 or 1998 range?(same price range).
3.Buy this 1989 300 SEL, and cross my fingers and pray?
This is a one owner car, and no rust and runs good and is etested and certified.
ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!I AM TOTALLY "GREEN " WITH MERCEDES
