I think for most of us, previously owned is even better. :)

Who wants a brand new benz? :)

Get one 3 or 4 years old, save yourself about £20k in depreciation and all the minor problems got sorted during the first few months of it's life by the first owner! :) Leave new-car buying to fleet or lease companies!

Absolutely, The car then becomes cost/effective,particularly if routine consumable servicing is effected by the owner & specialist tasks given to a reputable Indy.

Splitpin.

I can dream and aspire - but you're right - however if no-one buys a new Benz?

People will always buy new cars :) . Both my MBs had former lives as company cars and that's a nice safe market I think :)

If I ever reached the delightful state of money being no object I would buy a new car. Also, if I was like my brother who keeps his car for years and years and years having bought from new - I might buy from new. But as neither of these statements apply to me - buying new is simply pouring money that I can do better things with down the drain. I'd rather someone else took the hit ;)

My SLK was just 5 months old yet I saved almost £8k by not buying new and I pretty much got the spec I would have wanted anyway. Only thing missing was Bose :D

Trouble is - more and more people are opting out of company cars - I did - the tax was getting silly (once you loaded it with all the goodies)

I am more than happy for other people to take the "out of the showroom depreciation" - but we still need other people to buy new! And my post was a plea for others to do that - so I can be a happy merker!

I always buy new not because I,m loaded its just the smell of the new leather etc and the thought that no one else has ripped the guts out of it its worth the extra cost (you only live once). I do a very low mileage per year (less than 3K) which means I can go from one new car to another without the cost of major servicing, tyres etc. My 230K SLK is over 6 years old with 17K on it (until my son pinched it), my 350 SLK has 904 miles on it since 31 jul 04, I know it would be cheaper to taxi everwhere in an S Class, than buy a car, but the tax man will only take it an give it to the deserving jobless if I don,t spend it.

Couldn't agree more :) on my budget it would have been a new C class at best. For that I would have still had to watch all its depreciation happen... or I could have bought a 4/5 year old SL that had done the losing value thing and was now just waiting to be a classic :D

Done the new "car thing" now the games all about finding those gems that are ald skool classics

If I was really silly I could have bought a brand new Ford  or something else as dire  instead of my 2nd hand W210. :D :D
No contest
Why have a new car that will be old very quickly when you can have a Mercedes that is ageless

I don't think that it it so much ageless its more like a 10 year old merc still drives better than a new ford :D
