Buy or Hire???

I'm about to sell THIS that I bought from a forum member in April.

It's going for its MOT on Monday (it will pass) and is a super car for the money. Some rust in the usual places but mechanically it is superb. No wonder when you look at all the history that comes with it - very well maintained indeed. The only reason I'm selling is because the seats are just too firm for me after my back operation.

Or I'll let the 124 230TE go cheap. 9months mot and IIRC 4 months tax.
Not a patch on the 240 (2.6) Sport V6 though.

PM if interested. :)

Try enterprise car rentals and also practical car and van hire.

There have been a couple of occasions where I needed something for a month or so when taking on a new member of staff and a 4 week hire can be surprisingly economical.

Probably need to add some criteria, I have 3 dogs, 2 kids (+1 Adult at Uni) and my wife.
What with Football, Rugby, Horse Riding and Hockey at the weekend (and thats just the wife  )the reality says a 4x4, Estate or people carrier which is part of the problem on the rental as it pushes the price up quite a bit.

Now buying also becomes a problem as at the bottom end of the market, I have no issue with driving around in a cheap car as long as it doesn't end up in big bills!
I bought a Discovery 1 TDI today in anticipation of the coming winter. There loads of them about in surprisingly decent knick for under 2000 quid. Mine has 6 months T &T and bought for 1800. About the same 0-60 time as a tectonic plate but may be fun when the snow comes and, you never know, may still be worth something at the end of winter. Just a thought :D

Interestingly the consensus seems to be buy not hire, I have some spare time tomorrow so will see what’s around.

Ringway - I may well take you up on the W202

That would be good. I wouldn't dream of selling something unreliable to a forum member.
Mechanically it is very good indeed. The seats would suit me perfectly well if I didn't have a major back problem. The squishier, the better these days for me. :o

Don't know what I'll do with my 124 though.
For a 21 year old car it is in good shape body-wise, but needs some time and a little money spending on it to get up to the mark. So It's ebay or trade in for that one. :(

I hate threads like this!

Just spent 45mins looking at Disco's for less than £3K for the winter!

Didn't know I needed one till an hour ago!

I found myself looking idly at a CR-V last year and then again recently. I mused that it seems to have everything you might want in a small soft-roader - Japanese build quality, 4x4, small engine, light weight, simple interior

Yes, it's bland, bland, bland, and the low-rent models have that awful generic Japanese grey plush-synthetic-cloth / grainy-synthetic-plastic interior combo, but who cares? It's cheap, it's a Honda, it's likely to be cheap to insure, it's pretty worthless and winter is coming. What could possibly go wrong?

Finally, the CR-V got a great write-up in James Ruppert's Top Bangers supplement in Autocar last week, coming #18 out of 50.

The 202 did indeed pass its MOT on Friday. :bannana:
