Merc CLK 2000 Model
Hey All,

am in need of some help here, I have been on the hunt for a CLK Convertible for a while now (w208 model). Having searched almost everywhere I have found two good ones:

1 -
2001 51 Reg MERCEDES-BENZ CLK 200K Avantgarde Tip Cabriolet, this car is fully loaded with everything inlcuding command, except LEATHER! it has 40K on the clock

I know, I know a merc without Leather is well...lets not go there. The asking price for this £11,990.

2 -
230K Avantgarde Tip Cabriolet, 2 Door, Petrol, 2001 with 44K on the Clock. Again this is fully loaded - no command but has leather.
Asking price is: jyst shy of £13,000.

Can anyone offer me any advice on what realistically I should looking to bring the price down to as im generally just stuck and don't want to be taking for a ride.

I intend to part exchange my current 2001 CLK 200K Coupe Elegance (60K on the clock, fully loaded).

Many thanks people.

Leather might be desirable but in my humble opinion it has no bearing on these two particular cars in terms of the important things at 7 years old, (miles, performance and reliability versus price). Use the lack of leather to bargain with if you like, but don't believe the argument you yourself put up if you know what I'm saying!
Command, well I've never missed it so don't know it's benefits. Use no Command as another price reduction argument.
FMBSH on each car? If not - well there's a shed load of money off for that.
Parktronic is a must have. Check wheels for curbing damage - good argument there, also tyre condition.
You can answer yourself how much you liked your 200K - I think I'd fancy a change to 230K.
Can't tell you what your sellers realistically want for their cars but I always believe both sides have to be reasonably happy after the deal.
Got a 270 CDI 2004 CLK myself. Lovely fabric seat material in mine!

you say your current one is fully loaded; so assuming it has comand - rip it out and replace with a cheap radio, trade it in and then retrofit the command back into the new car

Do as SilverSaloon says! Leather can be retrofitted quite easily as can comand;)

What colours are the cars?

Listen out for a rattle from underneath, sounds almost like a loose exhaust heat shield. Could be catalytic converter on its way out. Around £1,500 to replace if I recall correctly.

As already said, leather and COMAND can be retrofitted if required.

If it is a cabriolet, I would definitely go for leather....lot easier to clean, especially from those days with the roof down !

The car without leather needs to be at least 1.5k cheaper as buyers do place huge importance on leather with the CLK cabrio.,

Agreed. There must be a very small market for folk wanting a CLK Cabrio with no leather interior. Personally I wouldn't consider one.

Apologies All.... I had not thought sufficiently about the cabrio bit. My entire comments above were with a Coupe in my mind..... Doooh!

Agree the car with no leather needs to be really cheap, I would think he will struggle to shift it.

I also think the 200 engine is probably not the one to go for, would prefer the 230 personally of the two.

I went to check this out over the weekend and it was in poor order I must say... alloys were scuffed, inside was dirty and in bad condition so decided to give it a miss

Hey mate, TBH paying 12k+ for a cabriolet W208 seems pretty steep. I have been watchin the prices since i bought my coupe and would say you could grab yourself a facelift 200 or 230k with under 50k for a lot less.

I know the above is just 1 example but i have seen a few pass by for well under 10k. IMO it is better to put down a few grand more and get yourself a W209:

Good luck with your search!!

hmm now that is interesting, I must also confess that waiting and given the current market its certianly a good time to get a convertible now. But now I have to repair my w208 since my old man didn't hit the brakes in time and tapped the front wall! was not impressed!

cheers for all the info tho from everyone
