While fitting a new head unit today I noticed a slight hum or buzz coming from the interior light unit infront of the rear view mirror.

I hadn't noticed the noise before as the engine has always been running and masked the noise.

Firstly, what could be making the noise?

Secondly, can it be fixed and if so, how?

There is a small fan in there, that noise is the fan, Its the interior temperature sensor. The fan pulls air in to sense the temperature.

Thanks Momomo.

Is that light unit easy to remove to get at the fan?

yes it just pops off
i have the same problem!
i just sprayed min with electrical cleaner
and it worked for bout 6 month

I got the 2 bulb covers off easily, but then I was stumped.

How exactly is the unit attached? I don't want to go pulling and prodding and end up breaking off an important plastic lug or something.

A little spring clip at either end, just release with tiny screwdriver or penknife.
