Well Merc have finally persuaded me that running an older car is a bad idea. Picked up a New XC60 D4 SE Nav earlier this week.

Early impressions are very positive. Quiet, refined, quick enough, comfortable and great stereo. Averaging 42.5 mpg so far with less than 700 miles on the clock seems good to me.

Apologies for the crap photo's.

Nice choice David unfortunately I'm going the other way Volvo have persuaded me to run an older daily driver :-)

Enjoy the new motor

Looks smart, I did something similar a couple of years ago when I traded in an unreliable 5 series for a nearly new Passat which was reliable but dull.
Was back in a W211 within 6 months.

I would expect that the Volvo will be streets ahead of the VW.

I see my status as trendsetter continues...Is it the 8 speed auto?

Enjoy!

Charles - it does...

It's the manual.... Perhaps a mistake, but one that I can (must) live with.

SE Nav, with winter pack

How's it going David?

I had a relaxed run on the weekend and yesterday and it seems like the engine is really starting to loosen up and economy is beginning to climb. It may be the roads in Lancashire and Oxfordshire are better than Bucks (hard to be worse) but the ride is also improving. All of this may be down to sunshine, but it is becoming a really good car to drive.

Some one left a Jelly Tot on top of your new dash

Ive had 5 years with Volvo and glad im back with MB, interior quality is miles ahead of the Volvo offering imho.

All said and done the xc60 isn't a bad looker :)

This made me smile as I have gone the other way. Some time ago I traded my C200 on a Volvo GT Turbo convertible. It went like stink but the big wheels and tyres were
shaking the fillings out of my teeth on Isle of Wight cart tracks. Eventually sold it and back in an old CLK320 that I love. The Volvo was quality but I bought the wrong model. Wish I could afford a new one!

Just a quick tip on instrument readings. When the range shows 40 it means 5. When it shows 20 it has no fuel. Had I known the first I would not have aimed for a petrol station 6 miles away.

At least there was a lay-by on the A23 just when I needed it, and a passenger who was good at thumbing lifts!

Just seen this Charles.

Going well. 2,250 miles in and I've seen long range economy of between 43 mpg (rushing all day) and 48 mpg (70 ish relaxed cruising). It's handled a little bit of rough terrain with no issue.

Now discovered how to copy my itunes library onto the hard drive also.

Miss auto still. Had a Passat for 3 days in Ireland and the Volvo is a million times better. Surprisingly wide to park though.

I'll remember that!

I've also added a trim plate to the top of the bumper by the boot. The dog would have destroyed paintwork in no time (bloody daft idea Volvo) and the Volvo solution is more money and looked less durable.

Welcome to the Volvo club:thumb:

On my 2nd workhorse, V70 D5 auto, just run in with 180k:D

I seem to remember that changing a light bulb is a 30 second operation as the whole light unit can be removed completely. Mercedes -please note.

I'm on my 16th Volvo but likely to be my last the build quality in the new ones is garbage (sorry David & Charles). Give me the Volvo's of 10 years ago any day far better built

I'll agree with you on the build quality of the fuel gauge!

I do have some bugbears with mine.

1. It has a rattle. Not so bad that I'm charging off to the dealer.
2. The handbrake is stupid. It does not auto arm like every other electronic handbrake, and the switch is not in an intuitive position and works in reverse of logic. I have had to chase my car down.
3. Lack of footrest in manual.
4. Lack of sunglasses holder - although £40 for extra from Volvo.

Charles - If you check Myvolvo you can order a set of Volvo rubber mats for £35. They are excellent quality.
