Hi all,

my external left mirror has been stolen and I'd want to replace it by a used one. i'm getting a bit confused about the connection it must have to accomplish with the anti glare feature. I have been proposed to buy a mirror glass which have only two connection beside it, I think they are for the heating system.

Someone of you can tell me what's to be checked to recognize a normal mirror from an anti glare one?

thanks in advance

Marco

How did someone get the mirror of without opening or damageing the casing

Your car is a RHD one, isn't it? I thought it was always the inside rear view mirror and the outside one on the driver's side that dim automatically. Perhaps you were looking for a normal one, I was not sure from the question (you anyway need to know the difference).

Of course a part number would tell, not sure if this is a similar car:

I guess you cannot go and look for another car and find your mirror if the number on the mirror is "yours".

The parts figures do not show any wires, I assume the inside mirror drives also the outside mirror and it would need to be connected by wires. That should also help identifying a normal one from a dimming one.

yeah, sorry, I haven' t explained full details. For first, my car is a LHD one, I live in Italy and this is clear because of my poor english...:o Obviously, the dimming mirrors are the inner one and the driver's side one. Cleared that, you surely know, I do not have any glass left in the driver's side mirror housing. I have spoken to an MB stealer and he told me that the dimmig mirror has two plugs beside it. One of it got 6 pins and the other got only three. The normal one (not dimming) has only two pins that comes out from the rear plastic cover and they are the heating resistor's connections. Furthermore, the plastic rear cover is a bit thicker than the normal one. Now, the real problem is another... I just avoided to be stolen again by a clever but not lucky guy but still need to buy another mirror. The original dimming one cost around 454 Euro VAT included, which I believe is toooooooooo muuuuuuuuuuch!! A normal one is only 70 Euro. But I'd like to mantain my dimming feature without emptying my pockets!

You have to "improve" your English, although I'm not entitled to guess, from your text I interpreted you would come from Oxford (I don't dare to ask where people assume I come from, it isn't Italy, so...)

454 Euro sounds high, don't remember the VAT rate in Italy but the UK shop lists some £235, depends if you have memory seats and if the glass should be aspherical.

The normal glass seems to be £50, this one matches better with your local price.

An option for used ones here, at about 160 Euros:
