Hi all.

Friend of mine is really keen to buy:

Used Mercedes C200 2.2 CDi Sport Estate Diesel at cargiant.

Don't know much about newer cars so I would be more than happy to hear all the pro's and con's so I could advice him if needed.

He's looking for:
-space (estate),
-komfort,
-economy.

We're going to see the car tomorrow.Anything we should look into?

All the comments appreciated.

Thanks.

There's no better car money can buy.

Reliable, fast, capable and spacious.

You're all wrong.

We must be...

BTW Steve are Mercedes commonly called 'Benz' in Scotland? I always thought it an American term...

Be prepared to spend all day there waiting around, and if they are serving American fried chicken wings in the canteen, don't eat them.

I have bought 2 cars from car giant and they have both been fine. Tend to be ex lease vehicles and often high mileage for their age (not this one though), but proper service history and not too bad on the ones I have bought. Very little care taken over presentation of the cars so watch out for stuff that doesn't work and cars that are smelly! Also work out in advance your view on the aftermarket warranty they offer as it is a hard sell - about a grand for three years cover.

When I was last there they had a lot of W204s on display so if I were you I would have a look at a few to see how this one compares. The test drive is risible mind you.

Aren't the C200s supposed to be a bit slow?

I know that my mate was searching for E220cdi 08-09 but not many around with decent mileage.

They're another good car. Bit big but very reliable engine and box.

Check the history, properly!

Do not buy their extended warranty.

Agree they are no fun to deal with and there is not much aftercare. However they are not like some dealers at the bargain end of the market who buy up wrecks at auction and try to sell them as good examples. Seems they buy ex lease and fleet cars under 4-5 years old with service histories (all the ones we saw had full main dealer histories), so there is a good chance you will get one that is trouble free. They make laughably little effort to cover up faults - we saw a car with a flat tyre, others with seat adjustment mechanisms not working, smelling of curry, etc. The big benefit is you can see several examples of the car you are interested in in one place, rather than charging round the country weekend after weekend.

The 54 plate Mazda 6 Sport we bought there was an absolute peach, totally reliable in the 4 years we had it, and when the a/c system sprung a leak we were actually able to claim on the CarGiant warranty (maybe a world first?) so that paid for itself. The wife's A4 also seems trouble free so far - an Indy specialist serviced it and looked it over shortly after we bought it and said it was in exceptionally good nick.

Just got back from car giant.
3 years old car, lots of scratches, alloys badly "refurbished".
Pure waste of time.

I've been to look at 3 cars there and all were dogs.

The is no doubt the camera does lie.

I've also had similar experiences with main dealers; I once did a one hundred mile round trip to look at a two year old Mitsubishi L200 Elegance, the main dealer said it had been prepped ready to view.

When I got there, I had a browse around the forecourt as you do and saw this L200 that was a right mess; scratches all round and the interior was a tip. I thought to myself that this couldn't be the one I'd come to view, surely...

Turned out it was!

He should try Mercland. Jay has nice cars and I'm very happy with what was provided to me.

So happy I'm typing this from a hotel in Inverness as I've been on a 3 day tour in it. It's excelled itself.
