Has anyone replaced their W203 C-Class headlamps with the new style clear lens lamps?

Was it a straight swap and what did you pay for them?

Thanks

Peter

I didn't change them but Gaston at Autoclass.net sells them for $450 US for a pair. Most people that like that look also like the bi-xenons better and when you are going through that much trouble to remove the bumper to change the light you might as well go 1st class.

I have the new blinker side mirror inserts, new fog lamps and new headlights in my car. Seems pretty simple to swap.

I wouldnt call it first class to get Xenon unless you put in auto-levelling - 90% of the punters dont bother doing that.

And don't forget the headlight washers. But some people just like the look of the projector style headlight which IMHO looks better than the new headlights and they are a tad brighter. But yes, it's not the same as if you had the opportunity to buy a W203 with them.

There is no problem in retro-fitting the full kit - people just dont bother.

I have had this done when my car had a slight bump, I think it involves removing the bumper which is not the easiest of jobs and you want the front end looking tight once it's gone back on...

I replaced my lamps for the clear xenons, and clear fog lamps. if you are carefull you dont have to remove the bumber completely, just need to get in side the wing on each side by removing the plastic liner, Stealers updated the software for free and aligned the units so they would pass an MOT. all for free. No self levelling, but not been flashed once by on coming traffic, no washer jets either.

They really make a big difference to the look of the car and the xenons are great at night.

I thought it was a legal requirement that Xenon headlights had to have self levelling and washers......

It is a legal requirement for manufacturers to fit self-levelling and washers, it is still unclear whether this is required for aftermarket applications.

I've not bothered, yet.

That is generally the word on this upgrade. I opted for the replacement AMG bumper instead of the same style.

When I had my rear springs done I installed the mounting plate installed so that I would later be able to fit the levelling sensor.

I have the facelift clear halogen lights on mine with the facelfit mirror indicator blinkers and clear front foglights. Check the links in my signature to view pictures of my car.

Had them fitted when I had the AMG bumper fitted, defintiely worth doing. I was very tempted with the Bi-Xenons, I already have headlamp wash wipe but didn't want to install them without the self levelling equipment.

I'm very particular about the modifications I carry out and I wouldn't have been happy to lose the levelling facility.
