I have a 2003/04 W203 c-class coupe that has the 2 button keyfob for locking and unlocking. However i have found a 3 button version for sale on fleabay that has a boot unlocking button. Would this work with my car even though my existing keyfob doesnt have the boot unlock button?

I guess i would need to get it linked with my car for the rf signal and infrared output anyway. Am i right? Would i also need to get my car recoded with star or something to allow it to understand the boot unlock signal.

And also if it did work and i pressed the boot unlock button, what would it actually do? Does it just unlock the boot lock (independantly of the doors) or does it unlock the hatch and open the boot as if i had lifted the handle or hit a boot release switch or something?

EDIT: here is the link to the fleabay page i found it http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MERCEDES-BENZ...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item33579f3ba9

cplnoonoo,
You cannot buy a key off of ebay that was previously coded to another car and then recode it to yours. I advise you to search the electronics category back at least 3 months and you will see its a common question.
I have the same 3 button key complete with cracked case and my only option is to buy another ebay key just for the case by swapping the PCB inside, or pay a MB dealer £240 for a new style chrome key with blade.

As the others have said, it will not work. The only option is to buy a new key from your local MB dealer.

Ok no problem i think ill give that a miss then. Was hoping it would just be a simple swap and link up to the car. My old car would take any keyfob as long as you put the key in the ignition at stage 2 then pressed both buttons for 5 seconds or something but then that was a rover so probably why lol!

Re: the smart key maker at £800...wtf i dont think ill be buying one of them just to code a key to my car lmao. id be cheaper getting dealership to do it lol.

Actually a few of you mentioned that i can get a new one from mb dealer for my car. Even though my current one is 2 buttons could i get the mb dealer to supply a 3 button one for specifically for my car and would there be any point due to costs involved.

Also what does the 3rd button actually do. Does it pop open the boot or does it just unlock it separately from the doors?

If you want that feature, the 3 fob key for your SC, then just go to the dealer and place an order for a 3 fob aluminium key coded for your car!
Once you use it, youll see that it will be working out of the box! No coding to your car needed!

But keep in mind that SCs boot is too heavy, so its a bit pointless by the time you will keep using your hands opening it!
The only use of it, is avoiding unlocking and locking when you just wanna grab something from the boot

Good Luck

Yeh thats what i thought might happen. I think i ll give it a miss for what it would cost its not really worth it. Worth asking though, thanks for the help anbway guys.
