I have a C Class Coupe, and for a while now it has a creaking from the roof, its the glass panoramic roof, some days worse than others, i have used silicon spray around the rubber, just in case that was causing it, took it to Greenoaks Mercedes where i bought it, they said the roof would have to come out 2 day job, and it was not covered by warrenty,

Anyone have any ideas or could help.

Thanks

NEVA GO ANYWHERE NEAR THAT STEALERSHIP... THEY ARE COMPLETE W*NK*S...

Not only are they incompetent but they do not cover rattles/squeaks after the car is 1yr old.

Try Hughes of Beaconsfield - excellent after sales service. I had an "awful" rattle recently on a my 53 plate car (door card) and they fixed it under warranty... Nice guys down there after sales wise...

He he - yet again Greenoaks gets the definitive thumbs down. I had MB Customer Services phone me the other week asking about my general experience of the dealers etc. Greenoaks got a slating and Tony Purslows a big thumbs up - guy on the phone didnt seem that suprised!

I used to have the same problem and tried some bog standard Halfords silicone lubricant as well but it did not work. Portzy suggested on a thread to give Halfords Finish Line dry lubricant a go and it has done the trick for me

Where abouts did you use it, it sounds like its coming from the rear section, near where the blind comes out from.

Exact same place mine was coming from, I put it along the side and the back rail / groove bits

Pretty much where Com says to use it but if in doubt put it anywhere you suspect. As with lots of interior noises, the direction can be misleading due to the interior acoustics of cars. You will find its best to apply it by firing some into an aerosol lid and 'painting' it on with an artists type brush, one of those soft 1/2 inch wide, but otherwise very thin, ones (the sort that you pay about three quid for). It does not seem to dry completely but leaves a very slippery coating which lasts a fair number of washes, I found the black trim bits that surround the main glass to be the guilty squeelers, the bits that come into view when the roof is first tilted but I 'painted' just about everything that looked like a runner or a channel or a guide, if you know what I mean.

It must have / did work but, in lubricating just about everything, the whole roof became very smooth.....Just like me really I suppose ;) ......

Its the best part of a tenner but well worth it because you only use a couple of spoonfuls (tea spoons!) maybe. Remember, its 'Halfords Finish Line Dry Lubricant' and its for push bikes really, chains and that, and its clear, not graphited at all. And remember to also clean your brush too!

Good Luck.

Portzy (day three!).

well thanks for your suggestions, i have been squirting and painting the lubricant all around the roof, and i am still getting the noise, its like an anoying creak, when you are driving along, is there anyway to get at the blind, without taking the roof out?? it could be coming from there, its also there with the roof open.

Anymore sugestions would be greatfull!!!

Thanks

Eh? My wife's 2003 C-Class rattled from new. Even the kids would laugh about the rattles in the back from roof/seatbelts/dashboard/trim.

Took the car back to dealer---got all that b*££$%^s about not covered under warranty--so got my solictor to write to DCUK, and bingo! They called to get car in...but it took them FOUR attempts.

Fact is that dealers cannot claim from DCUK for labour used to investigate such non-technical work..so they run a mile when you turn up. Do not stand for it. It is wholly reasonable for your premium brand car to be rattle/squeek free--even the courts and Sale of Goods Act 2001 recognise this--you paid a premium and the courts will support you in that expection unless the sales brochure stated that the roof will rattle.

Good luck!

The Stealer that I now use was fantastic and even though my car is 18 months old fixed my door card rattle prompetly under warranty without any problems... depends on ur Stealer...

I’m now the recent owner of the most stunning looking car. C220CDI Evo Pan But it while driving it sounds like a cross between a 16th century galleon and a Second World War battle ship.
It creeks, and it cracks, I have to have the windows or glass roof open along with the radio on to try and disguise the annoying noises. I had the car in March and it has been back to the dealer no less than 5 times. only a few weeks ago it had the whole glass roof replaced. I would shudder to think what the cost to MB was. Apparently the roof can be a problem as an older form of bonding agent dries and hardens so as the car flexes this annoying aggravating noise persists while driving. Thankfully this has now been solved but it has left the random cracking and creaking which is really P***ing me off.
The problem is highlighted when the car temperature exceeds 15C, at lower speeds with any slight undulation in the road surface or turning a sharp corner. From time to time you will get an almighty crack witch comes from the dash, the rear hatch or the centre consol. The sound is very plastic like, is any one is aware if MB changed the properties of any of the interior trim to avoid or improve this. I have been in touch with MB and awaiting another visit.
I must say the dealership have been very good but this is beginning to be a waste of time and I’m beginning to think that the car is never going to be a quiet and luxurious as any BMW I have owned.
