C Class Coupe (W204)
Hi guys, I am new here.
Looking for some advice if anyone can offer any experience.

Around 2 weeks ago my side light “the C shaped light” stopped working. I realised that my auto full beam isn’t working when the stalk is in the forward position and the lights are in auto. But I am still able to pull the stalk backwards to flash full beam. And when the lights are not in auto the full beam works with the stalk in the forward position. The indicator in that head light (passenger side) also doesn’t work. All other indicators lights work fine (wing mirrors rear and the drivers side headlight).

At first I didn’t connect the 2 faults until I took the car to my local garage and they suggested a new ballast. Bought one, had it changed and it didn’t make a difference. They are now say it looks like I need to replace the headlight.

So for a used headlight it’s £580..
Has anyone had an issue like this before and is there anything else I could try or is it just get a new headlight assembly and have done with it?

Thanks guys any help appreciated.

Welcome.

I suggest that you spend a little more and get the issue properly diagnosed by an independent specialist with STAR. Otherwise, you're risking the money spent on the replacement headlamp.

You have Terry in North London: Wayne Gates Specializing in Mercedes-Benz Servicing & Repairs

Also, I am not sure if the new headlamp needs coding to the car - does the car have ILS?

Thank you Mark.

Yes I think this is the best option.
But.. over the 4 years of owning the car and using the services of the Merc independent I have grown to hate them.

Terrible customer service, and prices to match main deal (in a nut shell).

I thought I would see if anyone might have experienced this and throw me a lifeline before surrendering the independent.

It does have ILS.

Thanks,

I appreciate that it's a bit of a drive from MK to Harrow, but Terry won't let you down, guaranteed.

Is the light that's not working the DRL?
If so, it happened to my w205 and Mercedes said it needed a new controller, not the headlight itself. Came to just over £200.

Hi rf065,

So I don’t think it is the Day time running lights. On the picture I’m sure the DRL are the very bottom of the bumper.

The light that’s not working on mine it the C shape light (in the passenger side headlight). I tried to get on the lights on while taking the picture.
You can see the driver side indicator is on and the C shape side light on the inside of the headlight assembly is on.

Another chap has mentioned to me that he had also changed a control unit and that fixed his problem.
Something like this I think

I have changed the Ballast and didn’t solve the problem.

Thanks,

Any updates? Did you manage to sort it
