Hi all.
Totally new to this so apoliges if going over old ground.

Just purchased car from Dealer 200 miles away. (yes get it).

Engine temp rises and falls within accepted temps, but far from constant.
Traffic quickly up to 90c.
Moving quickly down 40 mph 60c.
Constant speed m/way constant at 80c.

Classic faulty thermostat?.

Also near side Mirror not Heating.

Good indie garage checked car, spoke to friendly Merc Bod Front Sam unit showing Fault.

can only be fitted by merc, unit cost £450.00. plus fitting(crowm Jewels).

the only probs with car are as said.

Does this make sense???

Dave

The temp reading is probably due to the SAM failure. The engine obviously isn't actually fluctuating like that.

The mirror failure, mine had it. Just buy a replacement from eBay. It won't be the same quality as the original, but it'll fit and heat up.

Just get the SAM problem addressed first as it could fix other problems. It's a signal acquisition module, so many things go strange if that's faulty.

Thanks Mike.
Have been Quoted £460.00 + vat for unit + Fitting.
Any Cheaper ways to go ie Overhaul unit?.
Not too sure about 2nd Hand.
Dave

Interestingly tho I have 58 c220, it had same temps as yours, 60 to 80, like you 60 at 40/50mph, 80 in traffic.

Just changed the thermostat and temp is now 90 whether cruise or traffic.

56 quid for genuine mb thermo, 20 quid or so for antifreeze.

Fiddly job but doable.

Check with Merc indy garages, they could be cheaper.

Mine's a 57 plate and the temperature slowly climbs to 90 over the first 5 to 10 miles and stays there.

Agree with yugguy, it will be the thermostat, had the exact same problem, did it myself, just need some torx sockets and a oil filter removal tool and a thermostat and 1 litre of mercedes antifreeze

Would you believe it.
Used to have a Porsche and a friend of mine runs a Porsche /Merc Garage.
Thought i would have a word with him.
Told him problem he was totally non commital, said drop it in let me look.
Run Diagnostic, looked very Glum, said faults on both Sam units.
I felt like xxxx.
He then Smiled and said "of course we could fit the correct Battery then it will be fine.
What a xxxx, knew what was wrong minute i told him.
Lovely Merc lads runs fine, everything Works.
will be Having words with Dealer.
Dave

Oh by the way.
You were right about the Stat Lads Thanks.

Hi Merc c.class w204 c220 cdi. 48k.
Steering Problem.
Quiet as a Mouse, then very loud Squealing, Intermittant.
Have disconnected steering coloumn from rack to eliminate lower bushes.
Noise occours only when steering moves, either side of centre any distance.
When car is heading in any direction on any lock the noise stops when the car is on one tracking.
sometimes you can feel a very slight viberation on wheel.

May be the obvious
But have you checked the power steering fluid reservoir level ?

A new fault is better addressed with a new thread, you are more likely to get the responses you need that way.:thumb:
