C&SC test - GTV6 vs XJS vs 653CSi

It's amazing that different people have different perspectives on the same thing. I have an M635CSI and a 94 XJS V12 Convertible. The XJS is just a silky smooth cruiser that's designed to be effortless. I was not a huge fan of them when they were new but they're really started to grow on me about 7-8 years ago. The build quality is definitely better than the 6 series. The M6 is probably the most engaging car that I own. I feel more in touch with the car and the road than I do in any of my other cars, some with more than twice the power. After a long drive, you do somewhat feel exhausted.

Understood and agreed. To put my comment in context, when I say "Central London use" I'm saying it was a pain in the but for a six mile, one hour commute each way each day. Two hours to do 12 miles. With my foot constantly on the clutch (not an Auto)

Last time I commuted in DFW, the pace was a bit quicker.

All I'm saying is that the M635 was a lovely thing but it's not a car for bumper to bumper commuting, at least in manual form. The Auto is probably far easier.

No question, last time I drove in London it took me 50 minutes to go 4 miles on a Tuesday (around 2pm) going from one part of North London to another. I can leave my house in North Dallas at rush hour and drive 60 miles to my hobby shop in about an hour. All straight roads , much of which has a 75mph speed limit. I'd live to drive a GTV6 but I think the 560SEC would compare better in that list.

The SEC would indeed make sense as a competitor on the showrooms BUT it wasn't a major competitor on Touring Cars.
