Hello all. As i now have a baby on the way i have decided to store the 124 away and purchase a 4 door car. I need some advice, i saw a VW Passat today which has been standing for a couple of years now, jump started the car and numerous lights on the dash appeared. The owner advised that the only problem with the car is the handbrake. Does anyone know if this is common if the battery goes flat or do the codes need to be re-set?

Jack it up, but support on the suspension arms so the tyres dont 'flat spot'.

Can you leave a trickle charger on it? If not, accept new battery will be reqd

Either fill tank completely or drain.

The electric handbrakes on Passats are an issue anyway.

The codes will need to be reset to clear them all, but I would expect they are due to nothing more than very low battery voltage on start-up.
