C124 V8 conversion

My W123 M117 project is now complete. I have mated to a 5 speed manual.

If using M119, you really want to be using the early 1990-1991 engine which has CIS fuel injecton. This is a lot simpler to make work.

Ideally I want to stick with the M117 for simplicity & I like the way it looks in the engine bay, it's of the time the W124 was produced. I know they did the 500E but I'm wanting pre facelift so M117 for me (If I can find one)
 
Marneus, the MB V8 Conversions guy is a guru with these. I had an associate partner of his carry out most of my conversion.
However my project went on for almost 4 years, mainly due to waiting on parts from him.
Some eventually came, some didnt. Eventually I finished the project myself.

I think he is quite ill these days and so I wouldnt expect much.. Worth a try though.

The M117 conversion is more than possible. I also went M117 as its period correct.

You will need a complete donor car and a good head for wiring/electronics to make it all work.

You will need a correct diff and custom engine mounts. The cross member will need moving. You will need to think about braking system also.
It is no overnight swap but all possible once you have collected all the parts required.

The W124 is a little harder than the W123 as there is less space.. but been done plenty of times.

That's the thing, finding a complete donor car for sensible money.
I'm hoping Mr Carat 3.6 will be able to do the swap as I don't really have the time or the space (wiring is the devils work too :crazy:)

I've got a time scale of 2 years as baby number 2 arrives in April & SWMBO would do her nut if I start bringing numerous cars home (she's usually ok with it all but she's a bit hormonal at the minute haha)
So I have time to find what I'll need & save for it.

What would you say the cost for the engine swap (just the engine as suspension/brakes etc I can do myself) would run to? Is it a £2-3k job or am I looking at more?
 
I think the budget will need to be more. There is a fair amount involved!

Thanks for that, this is the info I'm looking for. I know it can be done but it's been done so many different ways that the info isn't really out there, I'm willing to document parts needed & cost involved so that if anybody wants to do it in the future then the info will be to hand.
 
What have you been researching for two years - a step by step guide? Just get in there and get it done. With a budget like yours it's a DIY job.
