Morning all,

So the CL has started giving me grief this morning, cutting out whilst driving and not holding revs.

She's been a bit temperamental to start recently - taking about 6 seconds or so of cranking before coming to life but this morning whilst driving along all of a sudden the revs would drop and then come back several times, until finally, usually whilst slowing down or in traffic, she would just cut out.

This happened several times on a 5 mile journey, resulting in needing to restart but fortunately she would always fire back first time so I was moving again. Under acceleration it's worse - you're doing fine and then suddenly the revs drop then half a second later they are back. The only time it doesn't seem to do it is if you get to 2,000 revs - seems to be Ok there - but below or above the stuttering happens.

It's almost as if there's no fuel getting to the engine for that moment so it cuts out.

Have I just answered my own question - is this the fuel pump or is there something else going on?

Thoughts appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Have you checked the battery? The slow starting would make me suspect it plus poor running could also be related to electrical issues?
Good shout!

I have no clue why that didn't even cross my mind.

Will get the voltmeter out tomorrow in the first instance...

Morning all,

So, tested the battery. I actually used the car around 9am for a short journey so let it rest for a couple of hours before testing.

Car not running - voltage, 12.43
Car running (took a while to crank) - voltage 14.01
Car off again - voltage 13.4

I am concerned about the 12.43 when it was cold - I would have expected 12.6 or higher.

Am considering a trip to Halfords lunch time for a replacement...

So. battery changed.

Started up - chugga chugga chugga chugga chugga chugga then fired Ok - no change there.

But, she does feel different now - seems more responsive and just better. Maybe I'm imagining it?

Let's see if I get any more cutouts in the next few days..
