Hi,

A friend of mine have merc c180 automatic, when he wants to overtake or when the rapid increase in speed required there is a delay of about 1.5 seconds, is there a way of reducing this delay and have the gearbox be more responsive?

many thanks for your replies.

This sounds normal to me. The situation you talk about is the "kickdown". when the gearbox changes down one or two gears, depending on the speed of the car. Due to the mechanics of the gearbox, i dont think its posible to make it any faster TBH.

And is 1.5 seconds realy a long time to wait? I think it would take longer in a manual car to depress the clutch change gear and release the clutch again.

thanks for your reply. i am just was comparing to audi a4 1.8 t, it much more responsive with that metter, so i was wondering if it is possible configure somehow.

Is the S/W switch in W ? See if the response is different is S.
(I don't drive Wifey's car often enough to experiment myself.)

Sounds about the same for me. The C180 just hasnt really got the oomph!

my 53 plate c180k delays about half a second, if that. I had a brand new c180k, avantgarde, face lift, about half a second delay in kick down - more of a hesitation as gears move down.

Supercharged mercs should do better than turbo lags.

one and a half seconds sounds a bit long.

hope my post helps.
