2012 C180 CGI
Unfortunately my 2012 C180 CGI slipped its timing chain, cost from independent Mercedes specialist to repair the damage £3500. So the car had full main dealer history serviced at the correct intervals, travelled 86,000 miles. Clearly the timing chain does not last the life of the car, the only warning was EML light a few days before catastrophic failure. Code was 0017. So the reason for the post is to warn buyers if you have a car of this age that has not had a timing chain change, beware. If you get fault code 0017, dont drive your car.

The M271 is indeed notorious for premature timing gear failure, as many members on here can sadly testify. Sorry to hear that you have become another statistic.

I had a car with the M271 engine for 9 years and had no issues, however I was lucky and I would not recommend to anyone to buy a second-hand Mercedes-Benz car that his this engine fitted - and, unfortunately, this engine was very popular from 2003 until 2013-2014 in very many entry-level cars across the model range.
