No, not a thread about the love of the 1.8 powered W202, but C180 fans is the topic.

Can someone please tell me what the two fans are are the front of my engine bay?

I presume they are cooling fans, which will kick in some time when the engine gets hot??

Next can someone tell me why all the W202's I have ever seen, including my C200 and C230K have these fans, as does Koolvins C180, but not Black180's C180 or Maz's C180?

Not the best shot for this purpose, but Koolvins C180 demonstrating said fans, as I would expect:

Maz's gaping hole, similar to Black180's (but in white LOL):

Any perfectly obvious reason for this difference that I have neglected to notice?

Air Con,

For some reason not many C180's have air con fitted. The fans are for the air con system not for engine cooling.

Doh, slow again, beaten to it...

Your engine fan is actually the other side of the rad, and is controlled by an electromagnetic viscous that kicks in at 65 degrees from memory... <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Thanks............

but Black180 said he had Air Con???? &nbsp;Don't you?

Those AEG fans are definitely part of the air-con system, &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/withstupid.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':silly:'>
and not direct engine cooling.

Yes I have aircon. but not that extra fan like yours Graham. Maybe the 1.8 Can't generate enough energy to turn another fan <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

newer w202s only had one fan that did both engine and aircon work.

Newer than what? I have two.

I don't have Air Con &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wallbash.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bash:'>

mid 99 onwards they got one fan regardless of aircon which performed all fan-type functions <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

hhhmmmm, interesting...

Every C class ive seen with A/C has had the front electro Ac fans as well as the magnetic viscous engine fan, Regardless of engine and trim level...

I'll see if i can find out from a friend at a dealers (actually too clever for the place...)

I'll let you know if i find anything out...

I echo what Shude said. The reason it was replaced was because the 1 fan is far more reliable and superior. (its what someone told me)

Ok, Do they keep the viscous fan or the elctric fan?

The whole reason they have the electo fan is to cool the A/C rad, if they removed this, the A/C wouldnt be half as effective. And from what black180 has said he only has the viscous fan.

Seems very confusing anyway.

Needs investigatin, none-the-less... <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>
