Hi

I'm new to the forum and hopefully someone will be able to help me, I have purchased a flood damaged C180 Coupe with delivery mileage on but obviously have a few problems, the main one i need help with is the key won't turn to release the steering lock. Can anyone help me please so at least i can move the car around.

Thanks
Phil

The key would not turn before the car has verified that the key belongs to this car. In order to do that, the drive authorization system needs to be up and running.

Do you have power on the battery? If yes, it might need quite a bit of star diagnosis work.

The steering lock should release as soon as the key is inserted, before being turned.
Does sound like a DAS issue.

If the electrics of the car are toast then this will stop the electronic lock working.

Sounds like you're going to have hours of fun with this car...

good luck with the project and keep us up posted with it thanks

I'm sure we'll soon be sinking under the flood of posts...

I am sure he won't be the only one overwhelmed with a "wave" of problems with a flooded car.

Maybe he'll ride the crest of a wave and it'll all be plain sailing...

You guys are terrible ....

But , whatever floats your boat !! :D

I sea that we need to keep calm and cool through the stormy waters which lie ahead. I wish the OP all the best and I hope to sea the car at a GTG as some point down the river of time. Worse things happen as sea you know!:p :D
Avast! amount of work may be needed...

By the way jellyman, we didin't wish you a warm welcome.

If you want anything just drop us a line..

Make sure the cost of the repair isn't going to put you under .... :D

All thanks for you replies and humor, i will keep you all updated on the progress of HMS Jelleyman, and the overall cost of course and i'm sure i'll be asking a few more questions. I'll check the things out mentioned and update.

I don't envy you that one:crazy: . But when I got my SLK in the first couple of days my key got stuck and would not turn at all. Called Mobilo Life out and just as he turned up it freed itself. Never had a problem since.

Good luck with it - wonder how many other flood damaged's we'll see. Wonder if Brian's CLS will become a new member ;)
